A birthday cake which the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray cut in Mumbai on the occasion of his birthday yesterday has kick-started a huge political storm between the party and the Hyderabad-based Muslim political outfit AIMIM's supporters.

However, the birthday cake was nothing ordinary as it featured the image of AIMIM's chief leader Asaduddin Owaisi on it and Owaisi's staunch political opponent Raj Thackeray cutting it made things worse for the supporters of both the leaders.

AIMIM's MLA Waris Pathan demanded severe action against Raj Thackeray and his supporters. According to the media reports, a large group of MNS supporters brought a cake with Asaduddin Owaisi's image on it to Raj Thackeray's Krishna Kunj residence in Dadar.

The MNS chief obliged his supporters' request to cut it and distributed the cake to them, saying that he will cut anyone who talk against Maharashtra into pieces just like the birthday cake.

Political circles are drawing parallels with this incident to Raj Thackeray's challenge to Owaisi - "Come to Maharashtra, I will put a knife to your throat" after Owaisi said that he won't chant 'Bharat Mata ki Jai', even if a knife is put to his throat.

Chandrababu Naidu reiterates he was the one who developed Telangana and placed Hyderabad on the Global map during his 9 years rule as Chief Minister of United AP.

When quizzed about the nominal assistance to AP from Centre post the bifurcation, Andhra Chief Minister admits that sanction of central funds hasn't met the expectation. He, however, feels there is no use in complaining that Centre isn't helping AP the way it should be. He also makes it clear there is no question of ending ties with BJP till 2019, instead wishes to accept whatever Centre might offer to the state. 'AP is a 2-year-old baby. Nurturing it carefully is the need of the hour,' he believes.

To settle the inter-state Water disputes, Chandrababu Naidu appeals Centre to constitute an Apex Council with Chief Ministers of Telugu States to resolve the issues in an amicable manner

The blind want eyes, I want water. Bullet diginda leda. Did we provide water to 4.60 lakh acres in Mahabubnagar by July or not? This is all that I ask for", said Harish.

Washington: Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who is the most presidential of them all? That's the question American voters are asking as they size up the three survivors in the White House race.
Supporters of "Dodging Donald" Trump, as critics call the Republican now sitting pretty with magical 1,237 delegates to lock the party nomination, have eyes only for the Manhattan mogul.
Diehard backers of mathematically-challenged "Crazy Bernie" Sanders, as the billionaire has dubbed him, have ears only for the self-styled Democratic socialist.
And "Clearance Merchandise," as a columnist described the Democratic frontrunner or "Crooked Hillary" Clinton, as Trump has branded her, too has her own legion of defenders of the faith. Poor Hillary, she thought her coronation as the Democratic nominee was a done deal despite an annoying Bernie snapping at her heels to the chagrin of the party establishment.
Then, a State Department independent watchdog's scathing report on Clinton's use of a private server at home for official work as secretary of state sent her "drowning in emails" as the New York Times put it.
A gloating Trump "Celebrating 1,237!" was quick to rub it in. The report was "not good" for "Crooked Hillary." It was "devastating", said the master of a "fifth grade" speech.
Bernie supporters too saw in a parallel FBI probe into Clinton emails an "answer to their prayers" as the Times put it, as the former first lady's lead in the prized June 7 California primary quickly evaporated.
And when Senator Elizabeth Warren, a key supporter, took up cudgels on her behalf to suggest Trump was "drooling over the housing crisis", he dismissed her as a Clinton "Pocahontas" and again changed the conversation.
When the media questioned him about an "offensive" reference to a Native American notable for her association with the colonial settlement at Jamestown, Virginia, in the 17th century, an unapologetic Trump quipped: "Oh, I am sorry! But Warren has a big mouth."
Going on late night comic Jimmy Kimmel's show, Trump also promptly accepted a suggestion to debate Sanders before the California primary.
"I would love to do that" in a massive arena, said the business mogul provided $10-15 million was raised for a charity with the promise of huge ratings for the host channel.
Then Sanders, who's peeved that Hillary Clinton was backing out of a planned Democratic debate, jumped on the offer. "Game on," he tweeted and boasted if Trump did not chicken out, the billionaire would be toast.
As the idea of what Democratic media strategist Brad Bannon called a "complete circus," of a novel inter-party debate, gathered steam, Trump did walk back.
He first called it a "joke" and then said now that he had become the Republican top dog it would be "inappropriate" for him to debate the straggling Democrat.
Meanwhile, as Trump completed the "hostile takeover" of the Republican party with his magic 1,237, a vanquished "Little Marco" Rubio came out of hiding with an offer to release his pledged delegates "to be helpful" to Trump's campaign.
Hours later, Trump who once called Rubio a "joke," a "choker," and a "dishonest lightweight" who "couldn't get elected dog catcher in Florida," graciously pushed him to re-run for the Senate. "Important to keep the MAJORITY. Run Marco!" he tweeted.
And as the three White House contenders called each other liars and worse and unqualified to be the president, the Washington Times offered a novel insight into the making of a president sans pundits and pollsters.
Saying that "size matters", it noted the taller candidate has won the popular vote in more than two-thirds of the elections since 1950.
And by that measure, come November 8, Trump, who stands 6 feet 2 inches to Clinton's 5 feet 4 to 7 inches, according to varied calculations, would win hands down -- big or 'small' as "Rubio" once insinuated. Let "rattled" foreign leaders be forewarned!

The second day of TDP's Mahanadu in the temple town of Tirupati has witnessed some intensely open attacks on several opposition leaders. Speaking on the occasion, TDP's minister Narayana came down heavily on Congress' MP Chiranjeevi.

Chief Ministers are usually busy people tackling important and major problems in the state and very rarely do petty issues catch their attention. Even then, most CMs instruct their officers to handle those minor matters. But, AP CM Chandrababu Naidu is a class apart.

Since this morning, Chandrababu has been busy with TDP's Mahanadu, which is going on in Tirupati. All the cottages, guesthouses and even private hotels in the town have been occupied by the TDP leaders and cadres, who came to attend the event from across the two Telugu states.

Due to this heavy traffic, devotees who are visiting Lord Venkateshwara have been facing severe problems with shortage of accommodation in this scorching summer heat. When someone tipped Chandrababu about devotees' hardships, Babu was quick to respond.

During his speech, Babu instructed his party men not to occupy all the rooms in the TTD premises and in the town and leave some for the devotees. Babu requested his yellow army to share rooms among themselves as they attend the Mahanadu meetings from morning to evening and may not need the rooms during the day time. -

Hyderabad: There is resentment brewing among many sections of the State government employees that the Secretariat employees are being given undue preference over them, regarding the benefits for transferring to Amaravati. As a result, these employees are sulking and unwilling to move.
Whenever Naidu proposes a deadline for shifting to Amaravati, Secretariat employees refuse and make certain demands. Naidu obliges and gives a fresh deadline, they make a fresh protest and demands which are again met. This has been the story so far!
Naturally, other government employees are going green with either envy or anguish at this preferential treatment and asking for their own pound of flesh.
It would definitely require a Bhagiratha effort from Naidu to move these employees to Amaravati.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has asked the Centre to ensure that the common entrance exam NEET for MBBS and dental courses is "not forced" on it even in the future as its implementation would "nullify" certain policy initiatives and socio-economic objective of the state.

While thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for "speedy promulgation" of an ordinance yesterday, providing exemption from NEET this academic year, she said, "For the time being, it put at rest the mental agony, stress and anxiety of lakhs of students and their parents aspiring for medical admission for the current year in the state quota."

In a letter to Modi yesterday, which was released today, Jayalalithaa said although the ordinance would temporarily address the issue for the current year, Tamil Nadu's "situation is distinct and different from other states."

She recalled that her government had taken a number of steps since 2005 for systematising admission process to medical seats, even abolishing entrance exams by way of a legislation which she said was even upheld by the Court.

"This measure was taken keeping in view the interests of students, particularly from the weaker sections and rural areas, to ensure that a level playing field is created."

"Introduction of NEET would be a direct infringement on the rights of the State and would cause grave injustice to the students of Tamil Nadu who have already been covered by a fair and transparent admission policy laid down by the Government of Tamil Nadu, which has been working well," she said.

Jayalalithaa urged Modi that necessary measures be taken to ensure that Tamil Nadu was permitted to "continue (with) its existing fair and transparent system of admission to medical colleges and dental colleges in the state and not forced to implement the NEET even in the future."

Rural students and those from poorer socio-economic backgrounds will be unable to compete with urban elite students in such Common Entrance Examinations, which were designed to favour the urban elite, she said.

Jayalalithaa said rural students will be put to great disadvantage because they lack the resources to enrol in training institutions and access materials available to urban students, she said, adding, a large number of socially and economically backward meritorious rural students had benefited by the state Government's decision to abolish entrance exam.

Further, for admission to Postgraduate medical courses, Tamil Nadu government gave preference to those who had served in rural areas, with special weightage for those working in hilly and tribal areas, she said.

"The State Government has also successfully obtained and enforced bonds from those completing Postgraduate education in Government Medical Colleges to serve the state government for a minimum period, which has helped us to meet the need for specialist medical manpower in Government Hospitals."

"Introduction of NEET would nullify the implementation of these policy initiatives and socio-economic objectives of the State, as the regulations for a National Test may not have such enabling provisions. The national test is out of tune with the prevailing socio-economic milieu and administrative requirements of Tamil Nadu," she said.

Along with many others, controversial director Ram Gopal Varma too threw some 'hot' comments on actress turned Assam MLA Angoorlata Deka saying "If MLA can look like this, Achche din aagaye hai. Thank you Angoorlataji, Thank you Modiji. 1st time I love politics". Now the MLA came out condemning those lewd comments.

Angoorlata wanted to use her celebrity status to serve people and do what she can do to better the society around her and she asked the people who are commenting to grow intellectually. She said that people have gone to Mars, but their mindsets have not changed.

She refused to react much on these unexpected sexist comments. She wants to move on with her intentions in becoming a member of legislative assembly and comfortably ignore vulgar objectification.

Some are even coming with satires questioning whether Jana is planning to retire from politics.
