In early April, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services announced that the agency received more than 236,000 petitions for H-1B visas during the annual filing period. This means, that once again the demand for high-skilled temporary foreign workers in the US is nearly three times higher than the 85,000 cap on H-1B visas mandated by the US Congress.
The fact, that demand for visas continues to be so high – despite the reinstated and increased visa fees unfairly imposed by Congress in December 2015 – certainly proves that a shortage of information technology specialists in the US persists.
In fact, the shortage is getting worse as businesses and other organisations across all sectors of the American economy seek digital strategies to gain efficiencies, improve customer service and open new markets.
According to US government data, there could be 2.4-million unfilled STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths-related) jobs in the US by 2018, with more than half of these vacancies in computer and IT-related skills.
So why do certain US “experts” and the journalists who follow them continue to claim that employees of India’s IT sector operating in the US are stealing jobs from Americans? In part, such claims reflect an election year climate in the US, when complicated issues are boiled down to simplistic slogans to attract votes. But they also reflect myths that we at Nasscom are working hard to correct.
One such myth is the mistaken notion that American workers are losing jobs to less than fullyqualified foreign workers on temporary visas and are required to “train” these workers before departing. In reality, the IT professionals coming to the US from India on temporary H-1B visas are well educated and highly trained in technical knowledge.
Another myth is that temporary high-skilled workers earn far less than their American counterparts.
This has been disproven by credible US institutions such as the Brookings Institution, whose studies have found that H-1B visa holders are paid salaries comparable to or even higher than American workers with bachelor’s degrees.
Also a myth is the notion that building a virtual wall of policies and even higher costs to keep Indian IT companies from operating, investing and recruiting in the US would somehow benefit the job prospects and quality of life of Americans. Most certainly the opposite is true. If American businesses cannot obtain skilled IT support in the US, they will have no choice but to curtail operations and cut jobs, or to move operations to overseas locations.
Besides making their US customers more efficient and competitive, Nasscom member companies also invest nearly $1 billion annually in the US, support the employment of more than 411,000 Americans and pay $6 billion in federal, state and local taxes a year.
Yet another “idea” that seems to be growing in this US election year is that foreign trade hurts Americans. Certainly the opposite is true when it comes to India, which the World Bank expects to overtake China in real GDP growth this year. A long-standing US trade deficit with India is beginning to turn around, based on 2015 data.
When increased US defence sales to India are added to the equation, that deficit is further reduced. US military sales to India have increased dramatically along with remarkable strides in military cooperation since the New Framework for Defence Cooperation in 2005.
Rather than building walls, we should remove impediments to strategic collaboration, trade, and the free exchange of intellectual talent. A strong commercial and strategic partnership between India and the US is in the interests of both of our nations. Unfairly focusing blame on India’s IT sector is not.

Donald Trump has won the Indiana primary and become the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, something no political pundits predicted when the billionaire real estate mogul joined politics and announced his race to the White House last June.
"I am honoured to be the presumptive nominee for the Republican Party. It is time to unite our party and defeat Hillary Clinton," Trump yesterday said in a message to his supporters after winning the Indiana primary, where he got more than 52 per cent of the votes polled.

His main rival, Senator Ted Cruz trailed behind by more than 16 points.

Cruz later announced to drop out of the Republican presidential race.

Soon thereafter, the Republican National Committee (RNC) chairman Reince Priebus said that Trump would be the presumptive nominee.

"We are going to make America great again," a confident Trump told supporters at his campaign headquarters in New York as he announced to take on Clinton, his potential Democratic rival in the November presidential elections.

"We are going after Hillary Clinton. She will not be a great president. She will not be a good president. She would be a poor president. She does not understand trade," Trump said, giving a brief glimpse of his campaign against the Democratic presidential nominee.
In his remarks, Trump described Cruz as a tough competitor and appreciated his decision to withdraw from the race.

"I want to congratulate Ted Cruz.     He is a tough smart competitor," he said of the Texas Senator with whom he had a bitter exchange of words hours before the result of the Indiana primary.

"Ted Cruz is one hell of a competitor. He is an amazing guy. He has got an amazing future. He is one tough competitor," Trump said.

In his speech that lasted for a little less than 20 minutes, Trump talked about uniting the party and focusing on trade and economic issues.

"We are going to bring back our jobs," Trump said as he warned the US companies with "consequences" if they moved out of the country.

Trump, a New York-based real estate mogul who made money from constructing buildings, and a popular reality television star, joined politics about 10 months ago.

As if the ongoing defections of his party MLAs to the ruling TDP in AP aren't enough, the YSRCP president YS Jagan is in for a fresh shock and this time from Telangana. According to the latest reports, YSRCP's Telangana president and Khammam MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy is all set to join TRS today.

Ponguleti will be meeting his constituency's prominent leaders, close associates and his cadre today to discuss his future plans before he joins the pink brigade. Not stopping with this, the party's Vinapaka MLA Payam Venkateswarlu is also rumoured to be joining TRS very soon.

Ponguleti's move comes in as a huge shocker to Jagan particularly when he recently announced his Save Delta maha deeksha against KCR's move to divert the Krishna and Godavari waters to three Telangana districts. With Ponguleti and Venkateswarlu bidding adieu to Jagan, the YSRCP is all set to lose its presence in Telangana's political scene. -

Impressed with their work and talent, Pawan Kalyan has handpicked four assistant directors from Sardaar Gabbar Singh and given them opportunity to work for his next film to be directed by SJ Suryah. The four assistant directors' are more than happy to be part of the film and can't thank Pawan more for the valuable chance for one more time.

Not many are aware that most of the ADs, after their each film, have to run behind directors or producers' in search of their new film. Since very few top filmmakers pay them a reasonable pay for their survival, there's hefty competition involved. With Pawan's timely help, the ADs of Sardaar need not hunt for their next projects.

SJ Suryah too readily accepted the ADs given that they'd be helpful for him. However, Suryah has some reservation on his co-director and Pawan definitely has no objections on Suryah's choice. Both Pawan and Suryah are working in tandem to make their third collaboration a remarkable for fans. -

"If the right project comes to me I will see. I might say yes if someone comes to me tomorrow, it depends on what I am offered," she said.

Directed by Milap Zaveri, "Mastizaade" had Sunny in a double role alongside Tusshar Kapoor and Vir Das. Riteish Deshmukh appeared in a cameo in the movie.

As the primary season enters its last lap, the race for next White House occupant seems to have narrowed down to two New Yorkers -– real estate mogul Donald Trump and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Ahead of the Indiana primary elections, major news outlets and political pundits projected that the Democratic presidential nomination is likely to fall into the lap of Clinton, while Trump is now expected to emerge as the GOP nominee.
And same is the mood of the nation, CNN said in its latest opinion poll.

As per a new CNN/ORC poll, 84 per cent of voters nationwide think Trump will lead the Republican ticket in November, while 85 per cent say the same about Democratic front-runner Clinton.

Clinton is the choice of 51 per cent of Democratic voters, while 49 per cent of Republican voters say they would prefer Trump to be their nominee.

Bing, the major search engine of Microsoft yesterday predicted that at the end of the Republican primary process in California on June 7, Trump would have 1,366 delegates, 125 more than the 1,237 needed to become the GOP presidential nominee.

Similarly, Clinton would have 2,676 delegates, nearly 300 more than the 2,383 required to become the first ever woman to be a presidential nominee of a major political party. It would also be one of the rarest occasion that the candidates would be from the same city and having their headquarters on New York.

Addressing a massive rally in Indiana, Trump exuded confidence that he will be the Republican presidential nominee. "Honestly, if we win Indiana, it's over. It's over," said Trump, leading in Indiana by 15 points against his nearest rival Senator Ted Cruz from Texas.

Indiana has 57 delegate in this winner-take all state.

Trump, as per RealClearPolitics calculations, has 996 delegates, while he himself claims to have the support of at least 1,001 delegates. Cruz has 565 delegates and Governor John Kasich from Ohio has 153 delegates.

"They're finished. They're gone. They're gone," Trump said referring to Cruz and Kasich. Even a loss in Indiana, he said, would not give them any path to nomination.

"If we don't, they'll win it next week, or the week after, or the week after. It's fine because they have no path -- was there ever an easy path? I mean, we'll win it in the first ballot. And when I look at these guys going around and talking to delegates, and buying them hot dogs, and hamburgers, and hotel rooms, or this or that, and they're all playing -- just so you understand, they're all playing for the second, third, fourth ballot," he said.

"They're never going to get there. We are way over and way ahead of projection and we'll do it on the first ballot. But if we win Indiana, it's over," Trump said.

Similarly on the Democrats side, Clinton has 2,165 delegates against 1,357 of Senator Bernie Sanders from Vermont. Sanders had yesterday refused to cede ground to Clinton even as he acknowledged that his path to nomination is becoming difficult every passing day.

"The convention will be contested convention," Sanders said. But many in the Democratic party argue that the game for Sanders would soon be over. This would result in a Trump versus Clinton battle in the November elections.

Tollywood is really facing lot of scarcity for cruel villain artists. We are depending on North for filling these characters. Sometimes, main shooting schedules of big budgeted movies are also planned based on the call sheets availability of these busy villains. Of late we have seen Ravi Kishen, Karan Duhan Singh and few more of such actors are imported.
At the same time, wonderful actor Jagapathi Babu giving up his hero image and re-evolving as a antagonist with ‘Legend’ is a happy initiative. Apparently, veteran star heroes are looking at JB and blocking his dates. ‘Sarrainodu’ introduced Aadi Pinisetty in a new, stylish and contemporary villain light for which again appreciations poured in. Adding to the list, NandamuriTaraka Rathna’s re-entry as a dreadful killer in ‘Raja Cheyyi Vesthe’ has also drawn our attention.
Reports say, ‘RCV’ is more of a Tarak film than that of hero Nara Rohit. His stylish villainy with fierce body language is highlighted. Although the movie bombed at Box Office, it gave a much needed break for Tarak to look at the future with optimism. This can be a new start for Taraka Rathna, if he follows Jagapathi Babu’s path carefully.

For Kalyan Ram, this film might just turn out to be a hit like Pataas, thereby cushioning his career in a big way.  On the other hand, Puri needs to deliver a row of hits.

It looks like maverick film director Ram Gopal Varma does not want to leave power star Pawan Kalyan just like that.
Continuing his cold war with Pawan, RGV on Sunday took a dig at the former for making an “appeal” to the Centre to consider granting special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
“Even it is a flop, we want Gabbar Singh, not Beggar Singh. What is the meaning of a power star, when you warn villains in reel life and beg them in real life? Special category status can be achieved if you make a demand and not a ‘vinnapam’ (request). It is very jarring to our ears, if you make vinnapalu (requests) to the Centre,” Varma said.
He charged Pawan Kalyan with cheating Kapus who had voted for the BJP and TDP on his appeal.
“With your requests to the Centre, you made them beggars. Not only Kapus, even Rajus (Varma) are not able to digest your stand,” he said.
At the same time, Varma described Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao as real “Power Star.”
“We need stars like KCR who threatens to skin the people at the Centre, not Pawan Kalyans who confine themselves to making requests to the Centre,” he said.
