May 9: Senior journalist Kuladip Nayyar has strongly condemned the freezing of accounts of Sakshi newspaper by the CBI.
In his response to the decision of the agency investigating into the alleged disproportionate assets of the YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, the noted journalist has said despite their political differences, leaders should not interfere with the functioning of newspapers. He said the act of the government was in a way stifling of freedom of the press, as enshrined in the Constitution. He said he was worried about the action taken against Sakshi newspaper.
Kuldip Nayyar has said that all CBI was making was mere allegations and no action could be contemplated until they were proved. He demanded that all the action being taken against the newspaper be immediately withdrawn. He said whatever be the tenor of Sakshi’s voice, he said the newspaper had its own right to express in the democracy. He reminded that CBI should bear in mind that it had no good reputation and was often charged of working under the directions of the government. He has advised the agency to look at politics and the media from two different angles. He also said that the government should remember that a large number of employees were working in Sakshi newspaper.
