Hyderabad,
June 14: TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu was dismayed that he had no
support of any kind in the campaign for the just concluded by-elections
to the Nellore Lok Sabha seat and 18 assembly constituencies in the
state from any one in the star-studded Nandamuri family. He has expected
heroes of the clan Bala Krishna, Jr. NTR and Hari Krishna to help him
in the campaign. But none of them have shared the burden of campaign
with him. He has expected that at least Bala Krishna would campaign for
the party. Instead, Bala Krishna tried to promote his film
‘Adhinayakudu’
through the by-polls. He has included some punch dialogues on statues
being erected to leaders in an attempt to attack the late Dr.
Rajasekhara Reddy and his son Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s party, to draw
crowds. He has even proudly announced that he was sending his film for
poll campaign as he could not personally campaign. But both the idea and
the film have bombed at the box office.
In
sweltering heat, Chandrababu had to campaign alone for his party in the
12 districts where by-polls were held. None of the party leaders also
could share his burden as no one else has a state-level stature and
popularity (there are allegations that he himself has not allowed any
one else to grow to that stature).
After
Akhilesh Yadav, son of Mulayam Singh Yadav has created a political
tsunami in UP, Chandrababu started thinking of bringing his young and
educated son Lokesh into politics, said reports.
Chandrababu
has attempted this earlier also. Banners with big pictures of Lokesh
were erected at the party’s last conclave ‘Maha Nadu’. But Hari Krishna
has angrily walked out of that conclave protesting against importance
not being given to him and his son Jr. NTR. This attempt of Naidu to
project his son has then backfired.
As
a retaliation Jr. NTR has kicked Lokesh out of Studio N which he was
managing. Studio NTV channel was promoted to be the publicity arm of the
TDP. Initially Lokesh was made in-charge of the channel.
However
after differences sprouted between the Nara and Nandamuri families, Jr.
NTR has unceremoniously kicked out Lokesh and all those he had
appointed as his aides, as the channel was promoted by his
father-in-law. Jr. NTR sat in the channel office for some days. However,
he could not concentrate on its management because of his shooting
schedules and the result is that it became the least watched channel.
Naidu
then hastily said that the banners of Lokesh were erected by some party
workers and he had nothing to do with it. He has even warned supporters
of Lokesh of stringent action if they tried to violate party
discipline.
It
is a known fact that Lokesh was involved by Naidu in evolving party
strategies during the 2009 election. Chandrababu has said then that
Lokesh has gone on a whirlwind tour of some of the advanced countries to
study the welfare schemes there. It was also said that some of the
schemes announced by the TDP in its election manifesto of 2009 were the
brain children of Lokesh.
However,
because of the stiff resistance from the Nandamuri family, Naidu has
stopped short of introducing Lokesh as his heir apparent.
But
now as the Nandamuri family had not bothered about the party in the
by-elections, Naidu is keen to bring his son back into business say
sources. Initially he would be made in-chrge of the NTR Trust, which
undertakes charity work. In the right time, he would be introduced into
the party said sources.
Responding
to these reports, Palle Raghunatha Reddy, TDP MLA has said none of them
had any objection to Lokesh taking over. He said there was need for
young leadership and the party would only be happy to have an
intelligent youngster like Lokesh to lead it.
