Kolkata,
June 8: A 26-year-old woman was raped inside a taxi in the city, police
said Friday, adding that the attacker has been arrested.
"The
woman, a housewife, had lodged a complaint that she was raped inside a
moving car late Thursday night. Acting on her complaint, we arrested the
accused, Mumtaz Khan, who has confessed to have committed the crime,"
Azizul Mollick, an officer of the Entally police station in central
Kolkata, told.
The incident comes nearly five months after an Anglo-Indian woman was raped inside a moving car in the city's Park Street area.
The
police officer said the housewife, a resident of Barrackpore town near
the city, visited a relative at the SSKM Hospital. Later, she boarded
the point-to-point taxi which Mumtaz Khan was driving.
Mumtaz
Khan then called his friend Habib Khan and asked him to drive the taxi
while he went to the backseat and raped the woman, said the officer.
After
the complaint was lodged, police first questioned Habib Khan. He led
them to Mumtaz Khan, who was arrested Friday morning from his house in
Park Circus.
Mumtaz Khan had also snatched a gold chain and Rs.3,000 from the woman and dropped her near Entally, said the officer.
