MS Raju is one of the very few producers of this generation that earned brand value to his production house. He has delivered a string of hits during a period and later slipped down with a series of flops. He is back with Tuneega Tuneega and this time he has only donned the director's hat. This film is produced by Padmini Arts and presented by Dil Raju. Apart from direction, MS Raju also took the responsibility of establishing his son Sumanth Aswin as hero with this film. Let's check out how this debut vehicle of Sumanth Ashwin is...

What is it about?

A chef's son Karthik (Ashwin) and a billionaire's daughter Nidhi (Rhea) fall in love and gets separated before they express their love. Why do they separate and how will they work out their differences is what this film is about.

Performances:

Sumanth Ashwin is a confident young man. He didn't fear facing the camera and there is certain ease in his body language. His boy next door looks helps him to get a good impression in the first look itself. With some fine tuning he can be a better actor. There are so many scenes and songs where the focus is mainly on his dance and he did reasonably well. Could do better.

Rhea is a pretty face with that ever flashing Colgate smile. She is okay as an actor and not good at dances. Rest of the star cast did their best to keep the story moving. Senior actors are present in good numbers and that made things easy.

On the Technical Front:

Music is scored by Karthik Raja and his background score is good only at times. There is too much influence of the West in his music. Songs are just ordinary. Films like these need a soothing musical score and that is badly missing. Dialogues by Paruchuri Brothers are out dated.

Gopal Reddy's camera work is brilliant. It is one of the major highlights of this film. Art department did well too. Editing could have been better. There is certain amount of lag in the second hour.

MS Raju has written and directed this film. As a director he has done pretty decent job with the framings and shot division and all. He extracted good performances from the lead pair and certainly no signs of a relatively new director. Raju knows how to make a film, but what let him down this time is the writing. Story is age old and the screenplay is bad. The ancient old story is treated in an old fashioned style and that has become the major setback.

Analysis:

Tuneega Tuneega is supposed to be a heart touching love story of a young couple who battle against all the odds to become one. Most of the love stories have similar theme and we have seen thousands of films with similar storyline. MS Raju thought that this would be the best story to launch his son.

Having a weak story is not a big drawback for the films these days. As we are witnessing many films that have wafer thin storylines doing well at the box office. What you need is good treatment and interesting screenplay. For love stories breezy entertainment and lilting music will add bonus points. Sadly, Tuneega Tuneega has none of the above.

It is a bland love story told in a pretty ordinary style. The pace is slow and the film takes ages to move to the interval point. There are some bright moments in the film towards interval and during the climax. Rest of the movie is predictable junk garnished with non-exciting music.

Tuneega Tuneega is one of the few films that doesn't torture you and also make you feel that 'what-am-I-doing-in-the-last-couple-of-hours'. It is absolute waste of time and saying so you can watch it if you are in dire need of killing some unwanted time or two hours sleep may be! Sumanth Ashwin did his part well, but his father is the one who could have done so better. Better luck next time Mr. Raju!

Verdict: Tuneega Tuneega is old, but certainly not gold!
