Union minister S Jaipal Reddy, who, unlike his other cabinet
colleagues, always maintains a low profile in the central government,
has suddenly become a hero at the national level.
His unceremonious shifting from petroleum ministry to science and technology ministry has brought into the focus of national media for the last two days, as everybody attributed it to the pressure tactics of Reliance Industries Limited chairman Mukesh Ambani.
On Wednesday, social activist and India Against Corruption convenor Arvind Kejriwal came out with several evidences as to how Jaipal Reddy tried to stonewall the attempts of Mukesh Ambani to dictate terms to the petroleum ministry to hike the price of natural gas explored from KG basin wells and called for an independent auditing of gas reserves in the wells.
“For refusing to succumb to the pressures of Ambani, Jaipal Reddy had to pay a heavy price,” Kejriwal said and demanded an explanation from Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on the issues raised by Jaipal Reddy.
Thanks to Kejriwal, Jaipal Reddy is now getting huge coverage in the
media and being projected as the most sincere and principled politician.
