Hyderabad,
Nov 3: The State government constituted a nine-member committee to
study objections raised on controversial film “A Woman in Brahmanism” on
Saturday. It asked the committee to submit its report by November 10.
The secretary of Women and Child Welfare department has been appointed
chairman of the committee. The committee would watch the movie and
submit a report within a week.
The Brahmana Association
and political parties have alleged that the film portrayed Brahmin women
in a very poor light. The Brahmin association also threatened to
obstruct the film in the entire State if it was released for screening.
Following objections from various associations, the State government has
decided to stop the film.
Film producer said that they
have made the film based on a novel titled ‘Brahmanikam’ penned by
Chalam in 1937. Brahmana Associations came down heavily on the film
director and producer for insulting the women in Brahmin community. It
may be mentioned here that the director and producer of the film have
already said they would delete all the objectionable scenes in the film.
After the committee submits its report, the government might give a
green signal for release of the film.
