F Tollywood Celebrities !!: Heat weaves claims 284 lives on Sunday, Hyderabad

Hyderabad, May 26: Andhra Pradesh continues to reel under severe heat wave conditions with temperatures touching record level like never before. On Sunday, 284 deaths were reported from various parts of the State. The death toll is as follows: Visakhapatnam 28, Warangal 23, Prakasham 26, Karimnagar 19, Nalgonda 26, Vizianagaram 22, East Godavari 20, Krrishna 20, Srikakulam 11, Adilabad 9, Guntur 15, West Godavri 7, Kurnool 6, Khammam 9, Nizamabad 9, Medak 4, Nellore 7, Ranga Reddy 2, Mahabubnagar 6, Chittoor 5, Hyderabad, Kadapa and Anantapur one each.  The toll is officially put at 486 since April this year.

The situation worsened especially in the past four days with temperatures crossing 45 degrees celsius at several places in the State. Palvancha and Kothagudem towns in the coal belt region of Khammam district recorded maximum temperatures of 49 and 48 degrees celsius repectively on Saturday while Rentachintala in Guntur district recorded 47.3 degrees celsius. It was 47 degrees in Vijayawada, Bapatla and Machilipatnam.

The Met.department has forecast that heat wave conditions would continue over coastal Andhra and parts of Telangana over next 48 hours. The Health authorities issued an advisory yesterday asking people not to venture out between 10.30 am and 4 pm to avoid sun stroke.

Meanwhile, deaths due to sun stroke are reported from several areas every day. A note issued by the State Disaster Management Department has put the number of deaths due to sun stroke at 274 since April this year.

Meanwhile, the Opposition parties demanded that the government declare heat wave conditions as a natural calamity and pay ex gratia to those who died due to sun stroke.
