Story

Ravi Teja who is going through a lean phase, teamed up with Gopichand Malineni who earlier directed him in Don Seenu. Director Gopichand Malineni didn’t try any experiments. He chose a simple script which suits Ravi Teja.

Ravi (Ravi Teja) and his father Mohan Rao ( Prakash Raj) live in Bangalore. He works as a recovery agent for a living.  Shruthi (Shruthi Haasan) is engaged to Rohith (Adavi Sheshu) and marriage is scheduled to take place in two weeks.

Shruthi along with her uncle Crazy Mohan (Brahmanandam) decides to enjoy the life to fullest with crazy things in these two weeks. She plays pranks with bachelors in the name of love.  Shruthi also tries to play the same pranks with Ravi, but really falls in love with him.

Shruthi conveys the same to her father Nasser, breaks the engagement with Rohith and decides to marry Ravi. Angry Rohith calls his uncle Vizag Poorna to stop the engagement of Ravi and Shruthi and kidnap her. Vizag Poorna enters the scene only to experience the shock of his life after seeing Ravi and his father Mohan Rao.

What is the background of Ravi and Mohan Rao? How Ravi rescues Shruthi from the clutches of villains? To know these answers, watch the movie on the big screen.

Performance

Ravi Teja is back to his forte which is comedy and action. He excelled in both the departments. His comedy timing is awesome, while the action is energetic. On the whole the role is tailor made for Ravi Teja.

Shruthi Haasan justified her role as leading lady. She is gorgeous in songs and treat to watch in ‘Pathikella Sundari’ Song. Her comedy scenes with Brahmanandam are hilarious.

Anjali who appears in flashback lived up to expectations, giving a subtle performance. She acted well in emotional scenes.

Brahmanandam is the other hero of the film. Anything said about this actor is less. He is fantabulous as Crazy Mohan. He is showing lot of improvement in his dancing skills and his dance for “Gangnam Style’ illustrates it.

Prakash Raj’s role is of two shades and it is cake walk for him to portray both. Ashutosh Rana and Adavi Sheshu are routine in villain roles. Lakshmi Rai appears in a special song. Ali tries to bring some laughs in second half.

Technical

Director Gopichand Malineni knows what audience expects from Ravi Teja. Though the screenplay is routine, director made sure that there is ample entertainment in the form of comedy and action. Dialogues are entertaining and powerful. Editing is crisp.

The one minus point for the movie is music. It is below average. Except the last song, the picturisation of the songs is also not impressive. Cinematography by Vincent is good. Action sequences are composed well.

Plus Points

Prakash Raj uttering Idiot dialogue

Bar tender delivering Bandla Ganesh speech during ‘Gabbar Singh’ audio launch

Brahmanandam powerful dialogue from “iddarammayilatho” – ‘Maatallev, Matladukovadallevu’

Ravi Teja, Brahmanandam and Shruthi Haasan comedy scenes

Brahmanandam ‘Gangnam Style’ dance

Dance in climax scene

Minus Points

Analysis

It is a simple story laced with entertaining screenplay. There is nothing much in the first half of the movie except comedy scenes between the lead pair and Brahmanandam. The real story starts at the interval bang and the movie turns serious with action takes front seat. The movie appears to be prolonged, but adding comedy in climax scenes offset the slack.

The plus points in the movie are Ravi Teja energetic performance coupled with Brahmanandam comedy. It is Ravi Teja mark pakka mass entertainer. On the flip side, better music and picturisation would have increase the success rate of the movie. Though, the comedy scenes resemble the scenes from recent hit movies, they are thoroughly enjoyable.

Final Talk

The movie will be liked by those who like entertainment not bothering about story. 'Balupu' is definitely a onetime watch for timepass.
