Kalyana Vaibhogame Movie Review

Nandini Reddy, the director who has made a pleasant romantic comedy like Ala Modalaindi couldn't live up to the expectations with her second film. She took a long break to come up with her next film and her hard work and the amount of time invested into writing this is clearly seen in Kalyana Vaibhogame. It is a feel good romantic entertainer that has lot of moments that strikes a chord with the viewers.

What is it about?

Shourya (Naga Shourya) is a computer game designer who wants to settle in the US as a million dollar company owner. Divya (Malavika) has higher aims to achieve, but her father decides to get her married. Shourya is almost blackmailed to get married and that's how he meets Divya. The couple decides to get married but on conditions. However life doesn't turn out as they expected it to be.

Performances:

Naga Shourya tried to do some larger than life characters that have given him bitter experience. He is back in his comfort zone with Kalyana Vaibhogame. He is too good in the role of an ambitious youth. Malavika is a natural. She is a fabulous performer and has once again proved her mettle after an impressive debut in Yevade Subramanyam. Rashi is a delight to watch in the role of heroine's mother. Her expressive eyes do all the talking and acting. Supporting cast has done their part. Everyone is aptly cast.

Technicalities:

Nandini Reddy has done well in setting the mood of the film without wasting any time. Characters are so natural and believable. The situations are so real they feel like they are straight out of real life. Director has done a commendable job in getting the conflict right but somehow slips into familiar mode after a while as if she couldn't risk too much for the sake of novelty.

Dialogues are very impressive. Music is pleasant and so is the cinematography. Eye pleasing visuals and appealing music will keep you glued to the screen. Editing could have been better. Production values are good.

Thumbs Up:

Lead Actors

Rashi

Comedy

Thumbs Down:

Drags in second hour

Predictable screenplay

Analysis:

Kalyana Vaibhogame hits all the right notes in the first hour. There are hardly any flaws or issues with the script almost until the interval point. The film heads into predictable mode only after the couple lives under same roof. The process of the lead pair falling in love and realizing their love for each other appears cliched.

Nandini Reddy plays it safe when it comes to the second and the third acts. People who look for novelty will be a bit disappointed with her approach but audience who seek entertainment may not complain about it. Although it appears cliched, the film strikes the chord with its emotions and light hearted moments.

The film drags tad too much towards the end and gets over melodramatic as if it is pleading for us to shed a tear or two. Nandini Reddy ends it on a funny note by introducing her characters from Ala Modalaindi towards the end. It is a nice creative touch by the director. Kalyana Vaibhogame is not a perfect film but it has enough to keep us entertained through it. It is a must watch for people who love to watch Romantic comedies.

Verdict:  Emotional and Entertaining.
