F Tollywood Celebrities !!: Temple Tragedy: 102 Devotees Burnt Alive In Kerala

In a major tragic incident, at least 102 people were burnt alive and nearly 350 people suffered 3rd degree burn injuries in a huge fireworks accident that occurred at 3:30 am this morning at Puttingal Devi Temple at Paravoor, Kollam in Kerala. The victims also include women and children, and none of the bodies could be identified so far.

According to the reports, thousands of devotees thronged the temple this morning to witness the grand fireworks which were going on since midnight. The temple authorities reportedly ignored police warnings of not to carry out the fireworks since the temple area is prone to fire mishaps.

The catastrophe occurred when sparks fell on the 'Kambapura' storeroom and exploded with a deafening noise. The entire temple precincts were engulfed in darkness as the power supply went off and people ran helter skelter, leading to a major stampede. Doctors say that a majority of the injured must undergo limb amputation.

Prime minister Narendra Modi described the tragedy as heart-rending and shocking and announced an ex-gratia of 2 lakhs each to the dead and 50,000 to the injured. Modi will be visiting the temple premises and the victims' families at hospitals in a short while -
