Bandla Ganesh an unimpressive comedian has produced big budget films with top stars like Pawan Kalyan. Where from has he got so much money?

It is a known fact in the film industry that the PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana was the financial backbone of Ganesh.

But did Ganesh also have the backing of Bhanu Kiran, the alleged killer of Rayalaseema factionist Maddelacheruvu Suri? This is the question being discussed in the film industry now.

Film distributor Subba Rao has told the media on Saturday that Bandla Ganesh, producer of ‘Teen Maar’ has cheated him financially and when he has questioned him, he had threatened him in the name of Botsa.

The distributor said that he has given Rs. 2.25 cr. for the overseas rights of ‘Teen Maar’ and Ganesh has cheated him by not giving prints on time. When he has questioned him, Ganesh has threatened him in the name of Botsa and also said that he had the backing of rowdies, Subbarao has alleged. He said he had lost Rs. 48 lakhs because he could not screen the premier show. He has also demanded a probe by the CID into how Ganesh was  investing crores of rupees in film production.

Now it is being discussed in the film industry if Ganesh had links with Bhanu and if that was true if Botsa also has some kind of relationship with the gangster.

You might have understood by now regarding what we are talking about. If the whole episode of Bhanu can be used against YSR Congress, Bandla Ganesh against Congress, then who is going to play spoilsport for Telugudesam.

As don Bhanu is revealing many things related to his association with Mangali Krishna, a close aide of YS Jagan, opposition is busy equating his misdeeds with YSR Congress. Likewise, based on a complaint lodged by an overseas distributor, some people are trying to relate produce Ganesh Babu's money as PCC Chief Botsa Satyanarayana's benami investment.

These two persons have become food for political parties who are trying to corner YSR Congress and Congress. Political circles are now saying that alleged sex scandal queen Tara Chowdary has links with a young MLA from Telugudesam party. If they could pull out a little clue at least against this politician, it is sure that TDP will dig its own grave.

The backbone of the entertainment industry has always been the presence of glamour. We are talking about the presence of beautiful actresses and sexy ladies who bring a special charm. So, it doesn't really matter if they are scoring success in their careers, as long as they are onscreen it is fun. That seems to be the logic behind the making of this new movie. Well, it is heard that a new project has hit the floors in Tollywood and this has not one or two but a total of four flop heroines. They are the Juicy Kamna Jethmalani, sensuous Bhanusri Mehra, highly erotic Nikitha and the giggly beauty Swetha Basu Prasad. This film is being directed by Udaykanth while Srinivas Raju is the producer. Buzz is that this is a heroine oriented movie and all four of them will have key roles to play. What many are waiting to see is who will be the lucky man to be present amidst them. Only time will reveal that.

Shocking! Shocking! Shocking! The other day we have witnessed veteran director Dasari Narayanarao singing the tunes of Megastar. Now, arch rivals of Chiru, Jeevitha-Rajasekhar too joined under his umbrella. After their much hyped entry into BJP bombed like anything, Jeevitha-Rajasekhar once again knocked the doors of Congress party. 'We're hurt all these days because Congress leaders haven't solved our differences with Chiru, though he has became the face of party now', says Rajasekhar. However Rajasekhar never cleared who has resolved their differences, but nodded his head to join hands with Chiru if they are ordered to do so. State's political circles are shocked with the moves of Jeevitha and Rajasekhar and are busy finding reasons behind their joining hands with Chiru. Observers are saying that Rajasekhar is trying for an MP ticket in Congress for 2014 polls and hence this move.

Formation of Telangana with Hyderabad is our main agenda, said Congress MPs from Telangana region. In a ‘meet the press’ programme organized by the Telangana Journalists’ Forum in Hyderabad, the Congress MPs Jagannatham, Ponnam Prabhakar and Vivekananda have briefed about their agenda. The leaders have called upon all the political leaders from all the parties to join the parade in Delhi that is scheduled to take place before the current parliament sessions conclude. “Put aside the party flags and come forward to take part in the movement,” said MP Ponnam Prabhakar. In case the Centre doesn’t react to our protest, then we would discuss and decide the strategy to be adopted in presidential elections, said MPs. The MPs have also demanded the TDP leaders from Telangana region to press Chandrababu Naidu to write a letter in favour of the bifurcation to the Centre. Not against the Centre & high command: In the wake of rumours that the Congress MPs were going against the high command, MP Manda Jagannatham has said that their fight was not against the Centre and high command. All that they request the Centre was to keep up its promise. The leaders have lashed out at the Governor and the chief minister stating that they were allegedly sending wrong reports to the Centre on Telangana issue. With MPs pressing the Centre without taking on the party but asking for sticking to its promise, the high command will apparently welcome the demand of MPs. But, the clear cut statement will presumably come after by-polls.

The much awaited programme Satyamev Jayate has started on a grand note to an ode to motherhood. Satyamev Jayate is a reality show that throws focus on lives of the people, their pains, problems, hurdles and how bravely they fought them.
Started in multiple languages, Satyamev Jayate was successful in dragging lakhs of people to television screens sharp at 11 AM on Sunday. The first episode of Satyamev Jayate began with Aamir Khan briefing the greatness of mother. And the episode was all about female foeticide. Aamir Khan told the fellow countrymen that ‘ a man is responsible for a birth of female and a woman has no role in it.’ Before Aamir Khan went into the statistics and how this female infanticide began in India, he spoke to three mothers who faced countless series of problems for carrying female foetuses. Aamisha, an average mother from Gujarat was the first woman who came to the reality show—Satyamev Jayate to share her feelings of motherhood with Aamir Khan. Married in December 2000, Amisha had to undergo abortions six times within eight years. She said she was taken to a hospital, given an injection and by the time she opened her eyes..she lost her baby in the stomach. She said doctors talk in code language to tell the family on sex determination. If it was a boy they would say Jai Shree Krishna and Jai Mata Di if a girl. Last time when she was conceived, she wanted to save the child, and went to her parent’s home where she gave birth to a baby girl. Her in laws later took her and her daughter to home. She was ill-treated and kicked out of home and she was not given her daughter. She at last took the help of a lawyer to get her daughter and now the case is in the court. The second mother who came to the show was Parveen Khan from Madhya Pradesh who was married in 1994. She was ill-treated for giving birth to two girls. She was even attacked brutally one day by her husband. With the help of doctors, she was saved. She said she now completed her B.A, got a good job and even taking care of her family. The show then aired a few bytes of some people who spoke on reasons behind female foeticide. Many were of the opinion that illiterate and rural people are indulging in crimes. Negating these opinions, the show introduced Dr. Mitu Khurana who was also a victim of female foeticide. Mitu faced n number of problems for denying ultra sound test when she was conceived. She gave birth to twin baby girls. Dr. Mitu Khurana approached the court over the bad treatment she received. The case is now in the court. Aamir Khan later introduced a researcher, Rambabu. He has said that even urban people, educated ones indulge in female foeticides. Even chartered accountant and IAS officers also resort to such crimes. Later who spoke on this issue was Dr. Sailaja who had been practicing in a small village in Rajasthan. She said adivasis never showed any discrimination between boy and a girl. In fact, she said adivasis believe that girl is a sign of fortune. Aamir Khan has said that learned and educated people should learn from adivasis, who treat boy and girl equally. How did female foeticide begin? Dr. Puneet who spoke on the show has told Aamir Khan as to how female foeticide had begun in India. It was in 1970 that the message of population control was wide spread by the authorities. A few doctors were trained at government hospitals on abortions. Those doctors trained in abortions had actually began to play the role of family advisors. They have not only advised family planning but allegedly asked parents to eliminate if a girl was born. Although the Government soon asked hospitals to stop this act, the bullet from the gun had been shot already! And the trained doctors started practicing this heinous act at private clinics. This became a good business to them and in 1990 ultra sound machines came into existence that could determine sex within a few minutes. This not only boosted the business of gynaecologists who allegedly determined the sex and later eliminated the girl babies but also the manufacturers of ultra sound machines. Dr. Puneet said India should implement what Korea implemented a few years ago in their country in order to put a check to the same. Korea Government cracked its whip against all those doctors removing foetuses. The doctors were kept in jails and their licences cancelled. The problem of female foeticide came to an end within a year. Even women doctors are also involved in this crime, he added. When Aamir Khan asked as to how many doctors’ licences were cancelled by Medical Council of India (MCI), Dr. Puneet said that not even one licence was cancelled over the same. Later two journalists—Mr. Sheikawat and Meena spoke to Aamir Khan on their sting operation seven years ago, which was on female foeticide. The footage revealed many doctors who were allegedly ready to do abortions. The case is now in different courts since many doctors are involved in this and unfortunately even arrest warrants were issued on the journalists. Satyamev Jayate team went to a group of unmarried men in a village in Haryana. They told that were not married since there were hardly any brides available. And they blame female foeticide for their unmarried status. That’s in fact true; elimination of girls would only result in an imbalanced sex ratio. Aamir Khan called upon everyone to realize the importance of women. He has asked people to grow from within and put a check to this problem. The show received good response. It’s sure that Satyamev Jayate would have an impact on a large number of people.

Senior Congress party leader and Guntur MP, Rayapati Sambasiva Rao admonished Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy. He said the Congress was vitiated in the State under his rule and the party will be thrashed in the by-polls. He is the second senior Congress leader to criticize publicly CM Kiran Kumar Reddy ahead of crucial by-polls slated on June 12, to 18 Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha constituency. Rayapati said, "No community can afford to stay with the Congress given the attitude of the Chief Minister. Even if some candidates are changed now, it will in no way alter the fate of the party in the bypolls." He also stated, "Kiran Kumar is more interested in himself than the party that has made him CM.” Similarly, another senior leader and Health Minister D L Ravindra Reddy criticized the CM and even dubbed Kiran as a 'covert' of YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy. Like Rayapati, DL also predicted that the Congress under Kiran Kumar would be defeated in the bypolls. Incidentally, Rayapati’s outbursts against the CM came on a day when PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana met Ravindra Reddy and urged him to hold his fire against Kiran Kumar at least until the bypolls are held. Rayapati said the Congress was sure to bite the dust in Macherla and Prathipadu (SC) constituencies in Guntur district. He said, "In both these constituencies, farmers form the bulk of the voters. But ignoring the ground realities, Kiran has repeatedly ignored my various suggestions including appointing somebody as in-charge to oversee the developmental works in these two segments." "I suggested to him that a Kamma leader be appointed chairman of the Guntur market yard, which is the biggest in the country and falls under the Prathipadu assembly constituency. In Prathipadu, most of the farmers belong to the Kamma community and constitute 45,000 voters (followed by 35,000 SC voters). However, the CM is favouring a member of the Vysya community for the post of market yard chairman. Given the animosity between the farmers and the traders, the farmers would make sure that the Congress loses in the bypoll," reasoned the MP. Rayapati said his suggestion to the Chief Minister that a Kamma should be appointed as head of the Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali- Mangalagiri urban development authority was also ignored

Bhanu confessed to the CID that he took letter pad and copy of the gun license belonging to Dharmavaram ex-MLA Kethi Reddy, Surya Pratap Reddy and procured two fire arms from Abids. Bhanu was arrested on April 21 at Zaheerabad for killing Suri. He was produced in the Nampally court on Friday and remanded to judicial custody till May 18. DG S.V. Ramana Murthy, CID Additional said, “Bhanu confessed that he, along with associates Mangali Krishna and Sudhakar Naidu and others, procured country-made fire arms for use in extortion and other settlements. Out of nine fire arms procured, two were recovered from Bhanu and his other associates, including Sulam Subbaiah.” Bhanu confessed that he paid Rs 1 crore to Moddu Srinu out of the money he got through the settlements. He was involved in the liquor business with Gangula Sundar Reddy, Satyanarayana Reddy and Pavan Kumar. He came into contact with Suri through them. In 2004, while Suri’s wife Bhanumathi contested Penukonda by-elections, he canvassed for her. When Suri was lodged in Cherlapally jail, he met him regularly. Bhanu is involved in several cases of conspiracy and violation of the Arms Act in Ramgopalpet, Saifabad, Begumpet, Kukatpally, CCS, Patamata, Banjara Hills, CID and Panjagutta. Investigations revealed that Bhanu had helped one K.V.N. Reddy in the Handri-Neeva contract. Mr Ramana Murthy said, “During 2005-2006, Bhanu, along with his associates, was involved in the Handri-Neeva project and threatened other contractors not to submit their tenders and bagged projects worth Rs 178 crore in the names of JK Constructions, GVR Constructions and Coastal Constructions. HYDERABAD: The state government on Thursday said that the new physics marks obtained in the advance supplementary exam being held on May 16 for the 1.8 lakh Intermediate students who failed in it would not figure in the Eamcet merit list. Secondary education minister K Parthasarathy said that Eamcet rank list was scheduled to be out on May 24 and the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) was in no position to declare its results before that. Eamcet officials have made it clear that the rank list announcement would not be postponed.

Furious students and parents, whose protest had forced the government to agree to advance the exam date from May 24 to 16, held a protest in front of BIE office on Thursday. "If the government is not willing to consider the new marks while calculating Eamcet ranks, why did they advance the date? They raised false hopes," said N Nagaraju, a parent. Ironically, the government had advanced the dates to allow the students to be eligible for competitive examinations, including Eamcet, BITSAT (for BITS, Pilani), IIT-JEE and AIEEE.

Higher education minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha has reportedly called for a state-level meeting of all stakeholders, including AP State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE), Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University ( JNTU) and Board of Intermediate Education on Friday to discuss the issue.

Till last year, students taking advance supplementary examinations were considered for the Eamcet rank list. But this year, the higher education department issued a GO in the second week of April - before the Inter results - saying that these students would not be considered for Eamcet as hardly a few hundred appeared for it.

However, in an unusual development this year, a huge number (1.8 lakh or 31% of total Inter students) failed in the physics paper. Protests finally forced the state government to advance the advance
supplementary exam date to May 16. Of the total 5.6 lakh students who appeared for the physics paper, 4.8 lakh are appearing for the advance supplementary, including the 1.8 lakh who failed.

HOWRAH: A 47-year-old schoolteacher from Howrah was hauled up for showing pornographic material on his mobile phone to students. Bally resident Debasis Das, who taught English at Belur High School, was arrested on Thursday after parents lodged a complaint against him. Das was also suspended from the school immediately.

A couple of months ago, MLAs of Karnataka and Gujarat were accused of watching it in their respective Assemblies. And now, a 47-year-old schoolteacher from Howrah has been hauled up for showing pornographic material in his mobile phone to students. Bally resident Debasis Das, who taught English in the Belur High School, was arrested on Thursday after parents lodged a complaint against him. He was also suspended from the school immediately.

Das taught English to students of Classes V to VIII in the all boys' school. On Thursday morning, hundreds of parents turned up at the school and demanded a meeting with headmaster Tapas Chattopadhyay. The headmaster was shocked when the parents accused Das of showing obscene photographs and film clips on his mobile phone to their sons. The parents also staged a demonstration outside the school premises demanding the teacher's suspension.

The parents then lodged a complaint with the police, accusing Das of sexually harassing their children. Das was arrested and taken to the police station.

"The governing body of the school is taking this charge very seriously and we have suspended him. I will also take up the matter with the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. In December, 2011, this teacher was suspended for academic reasons. The suspension was revoked in the end of March and he started taking classes again. We are treating this complaint very seriously though," Chattopadhyay said.

Nishat Pervez, DC(HQ), Howrah City Police, confirmed that the teacher was arrested and investigations were on. Display of pornographic material to minors is a punishable offence in India and Das is liable to be sentenced if the charges against him are proved.

NAGPUR: A day after the case of a drunk man raping his mother-in-law was reported at Koradi police station, another shocking incident of a four-year-old girl being raped was reported at Nandanvan police station on Wednesday.

According to the police, the girl and her younger brother were asleep when their mother heard her screaming. When she rushed to the room, she found her daughter bleeding. The mother then made a police complaint.

However, in the medical reports the doctors mentioned that it is very difficult to say whether the girl was sexually assaulted or not.

Senior police inspector Sunil Jaiswal said, "As per the medical reports, there is bleeding but no injury was found. Yet, as claimed by the mother, we have registered an offence of rape against an unknown culprit."

According to the police, the victim and her family had come to the city to attend her uncle's marriage on Tuesday. The family hailed from Nagbhid.

On Wednesday night, the girl, her brother and other children were asleep in the uncle's house at Abbu Miya Nagar while the family members and other relatives had gone to the reception party which was being held about 20 metres from the house in a pandal.

Around 10.30pm, the girl's mother came to the house for some work and heard her daughter crying. Spotting the blood stains, she told in her complaint that the kid has been either raped or an attempt has been made.

Cops said that since the girl is still crying in pain and is too small to give a statement, the case is not clear. "The victim has now recovered from the pain and her mother is questioning her slowly with some woman constables. So far, the girl has not said about any relative had come to her or any stranger. She is repeatedly saying that she felt something like a needle hurting her," said Jaiswal.

Hyderabad, May 2: “Power is not a means it is an end. One does not establish a political power in order to safeguard a revolution. One makes the revolution to establish political power” Ironically, the political masters and the TPJAC, a platform of intellectual cahoots that have been leading the “Telangana movement” (the Ultimate War for Telangana & a revolution of its own kind) began to safeguard their political powers at the cost of the movement. In the process, they turned the movement which has been spiraling out to be a ground swell of peoples’ sentiment into a show of an extended and a brazen form of an ordinary “political confrontation” that one comes across day in day out among the political class. In the process they are unashamedly engaged in slugfest in trying to establish a political power in the guise of championing the ongoing Telangana movement. Instead of consolidating the movement to establish political power, they are engaged in political slugfest to claim the authority over it. As a result the very existence of TJAC has become doubtful with its two main constituents TRS and BJP pulling it in different directions. The TRS wants to send the BJP out of the joint action committee which has been spearheading the Telangana Movement after branding it as a communal party. Not satisfying with that KCR, TRS supremo even wants to throw out Kodandaram from TPJAC who hitherto been known as a religiously sincere marionette of KCR. It appears that the subservient Kodandaram has suddenly become a thing of allergy to KCR. The whole game plan of both the main Telangana protagonist parties is to hog unrivalled domination over Telangana movement so as to consolidate the Telangana vote in their favour. In the process they gave a new dimension to political equations in Telangana region subjecting the Telangana protagonists into confusion and tearing TPJAC asunder. Aware of TRS' game plan, the BJP is working hard to spread its roots wide and deep in the region to become a force to reckon with, and is leveraging heavily on its national party's image and its commitment to the Telangana cause. With the Parkal by-election round the corner, the TRS wants to execute its plan to expel the BJP out of TJAC and thus gain electoral advantage in the by-election which the BJP is also fighting. The TRS is worried about the growing strength of the BJP and wants to clip the saffron party's wings so that it could not pose a threat to its own existence. On the other hand, wanting to play its cards carefully, the BJP is ready to face the TRS but wants to remain in the TJAC to derive political benefit. It plans to take the help of other Telangana organisations to check the growing clout of the TRS with TJAC. Once again the sentiments and aspirations of Telangana people seemed to have become a plaything for politicians. The sudden turnaround and decision of leadership to tear TPJAC asunder to hog the political domination indicated a “movement failed and politics won situation”. The Ultimate war for Telangana suddenly became a mission to reclaim political supremacy and became an unwelcome distraction from real cause. The movement instead of becoming an instrument to achieve Telangana has turned out to be an ocean of chaos. If the latest developments are any indication, the progress of an emotionally appealing movement suddenly morphed into a new election platform for politicians. The movement has become a battle to be waged before media cameras as it is more of scoring political points. Its impetus, it seems did not spring from the inchoate and deeper sentiment of the people, but much from the imperatives of electoral politics. There seemed to be nothing transcendent and epochal about the self styled Ultimate war, it is more of inspiring the voters and messianic rhetoric of its leadership. History has a fascinating way of playing with the human beings in ways they themselves are unable to comprehend. History once again proved that it can be repeated, Telangana people are playing their roles on the stage of current Telangana movement without knowing that their actions can draw parallel to the long forgotten actors who left the same stage, while the character of the politicians leading the present movement in many ways seemed to be relics of compromise witnessed on the same stage in 1969.

Hyderabad, May 3: People of the Sitaphalmandi area in the heart of the city have been spending sleepless nights, fearing that ghosts were on the prowl, killing innocent people. A series of deaths of children has caused the residents of some of the areas of Sitaphalmandi suspect that it was the work of evil forces. Residents said that one healthy person who was talking with his friends has suddenly rushed into his house and hanged himself, for no reason. Residents are stating that several such inexplicable deaths were occurring in the area. Residents wrote the name of Lord ‘Ram’ prominently on the outer walls of their houses in red paint, to dispel evil forces. Youth are patrolling the streets with sticks, through the nights so that elders could sleep peacefully (though none could explain how they proposed to attack a ghost with a stick). Visits of representatives of Jana Vignana Vedika (which campaigns for rational and scientific thinking) to the area, have not helped instill any confidence among the residents. Fearing the ghosts, several people have locked their houses and went off to relatives’ places. Some are spending the days at their houses and sleeping in temples during nights. However, neither the government nor other political parties have done anything to restore confidence among the people as they were all busy with their election strategies.

Skin shows, bikinis, lip-locks and other side businesses are encouraged for heroines as long as their status update is 'single'. Once they tie the holy knot everything should change, else their families may not support them. We have seen a bunch of aunties returning to silver screen even after marriage. If they pick some family roles that look dignified, everything goes well. Else, if they shed clothes again, marriages will be disastrous. Looks like, same kind of thoughts are worrying the in-laws of cute heroine Sneha, who is going to ring wedding bells on May 11th. Reports are heard here and there that this tempting beauty wants to continue in films even after marriage. But, she hasn't given the clarity about the kind of roles she will be taking up. People are saying that it became possible only for ravishing damsel Aishwarya Rai to rock as a top heroine even after marriage that too with a bit a skin show. They feel that Sneha's case is different and she may not get her 'wild dreams' satisfied without support from in-laws.

Hyderabad, May 3: TRS senior leader and former MP Vinod has said that as the union Home Minister Chidambaram has informed the Lok Sabha that the TDP chief Chandra Babu Naidu has met him in connection with the Telangana issue, it has now become clear that it was Naidu who had scuttled the Telangana process.

Talking to the media here on Thursday, Vinod said in sharp contrast to Chandrababu’s claim several times in the past that he never met Chidambaram; the Home Minister has specifically stated that he had met him. He said with this, the real nature of Naidu has been exposed.

He said while Naidu was duping the people by stating that he and his party were staunch supporters of the 'T' cause, he has been subverting the process all along.

Vinod has demanded that Naidu must clarify in what context he has met the Home Minister. If he has not met Chidambaram as he has been claiming, he should move a privilege notice against the union minister for giving misleading information to the Lok Sabha, he added.

NEW YORK/OAKLAND, California (Reuters) - Occupy Wall Street protesters smashed windows in Seattle, were chased through New York streets by police on scooters, and clashed with officers in Oakland on Tuesday in May Day demonstrations intended to revive their movement against economic injustice. While many events involving thousands of protesters were peaceful or even festive and few injuries were reported, dozens of people were arrested at rallies across the country, including more than 30 in New York during a series of skirmishes throughout the day. In Oakland, police in riot gear fired tear gas and flash-bang grenades to disperse protesters who they said threw objects at officers and struck them with corrugated metal shields. City officials said marchers also vandalized two banks, a police van and a news vehicle. Nine were arrested. "I was standing on the outside and the cops came in, snatched two people in the crowd, beat them and put them in the paddy wagon," Occupy Oakland organizer Caitlin Manning said. Much of the violence and vandalism was attributed to black-clad anarchist elements within the Occupy movement who have been involved in previous confrontations with police, marring what began as a peaceful anti-Wall Street protest movement. But the clashes they helped spark last year had also served to inject new life into the protests as demonstrators took up the issue of police brutality following running clashes in Oakland and pepper spray incidents elsewhere in the country. In downtown Seattle, protesters carrying black flags on sticks shattered the windows of several stores including a Nike Town outlet and an HSBC bank before police moved them out of the area. Others smashed windows at a Seattle federal building, and several were taken into custody. Inspired by the Arab Spring, the Occupy Wall Street movement captured world attention last year with a campaign decrying the gap between rich and poor and a political system and tax structured tilted toward the wealthiest 1 percent. 'YOU ARE NOT IN CONTROL' In New York, where the Occupy movement began last September, thousands packed New York's Union Square in a party-like atmosphere with Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello. "It's definitely a restart for Occupy Wall Street," said Lily Schwarzbaum, 21, who is from New York but studies in Montreal, Canada. "Occupy Wall Street has been very conscious of making it a kick-off." But before the day was out, about 400 New York protesters - many wearing black clothes and bandannas - ran onto Broadway as police chased them on scooters. Police also reported 10 instances of harmless white powder -- apparently meant to raise an anthrax scare -- being mailed to financial institutions and others, along with notes saying, "Happy May Day ... This is a reminder you are not in control." David Meyer, sociology professor at the University of California, Irvine, said the movement needed to rein in its more radical elements if it wanted to retain support by the American public. "The challenge is that the most radical action, particularly if it's violent, is going to get the most attention," Meyer said. "The broader Occupy movement runs the risk of being discredited by its own radical flank." In that vein, Occupy Cleveland canceled its events "out of respect for the city" after five self-described anarchists were arrested on suspicion of plotting to blow up a four-lane highway bridge over a national park. Occupy Cleveland said in a statement the men arrested were associated with their movement but that "they were in no way representing or acting on behalf of Occupy Cleveland." The group said it was committed to non-violent protest. OFFICER HURT IN LOS ANGELES Although labor unions rejected pleas from leaders of the Occupy movement for a general strike, forcing demonstrators to abandon a plan to shut down San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, activists hailed the day's events as a step forward for a movement that had grown inactive and cash poor since capturing world attention last fall. "We've been building important alliances and radicalized people in what they're willing to endorse. I mean, we never even used to celebrate May Day. Now look at this," said David Graeber, an anthropologist and author active in the movement. May Day, also known as International Workers' Day, has long been a day on which the labor movement holds street demonstrations and marches, but less so in the United States than elsewhere around the world. In Los Angeles, thousands of protesters including a large contingent of immigrant rights activists, some waving Mexican flags, marched through the downtown financial district, remaining mostly peaceful despite a few minor skirmishes. American Apparel CEO Dov Charney, who took part in the rally, said he gave some 200 workers at the company's downtown Los Angeles factory the afternoon off to participate. "We want to support a non-apartheid system," Charney told Reuters, referring to U.S. immigration policies. Lieutenant Andy Neiman, a spokesman for the Los Angeles police department, said a female police officer was struck by a skateboard during a scuffle with protesters and was taken to a local hospital, where she was listed in stable condition. Ten people were arrested near Los Angeles International Airport after they blocked a major thoroughfare. In Portland, about a dozen people were arrested after clashing with police during a downtown march. (Additional reporting by Lily Kuo in Washington; Edith Honan in New York; Ronnie Cohen in Larkspur, California; Teresa Carson in Portland; Andrew Stern in Chicago; Malathi Nayak in San Francisco; Laura Myers in Seattle; Evan Pondel, Mary Slosson and Dan Whitcomb in Los Angeles; Writing by Dan Whitcomb and Dan Trotta; Editing by Philip Barbara, Cynthia Johnston and Lisa Shumaker)

Hyderabad, May 1: New Democracy has expressed its anger at the TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao trying to dislodge Prof. Kodandaram, Chairman of the Telangana JAC. Though Eetela Ravindra, TRS Legislature Party leader has on Monday denied that there were any differences between the TRS and the JAC, Suryam, spokesperson of the New Democracy told the media that he had information that KCR has called JAC chiefs of four or five districts and told them that Kodandaram was behaving in a high-handed manner and has to be removed. He said that it was feudalistic to feel that JAC was the creation of the TRS and has to be subservient to it. He said when he spoke to Kodandaram, he has refused to talk, and this gave him a clear idea of the seriousness of the situation. This is the first time that New Democracy, a partner of the JAC and the Telangana movement has come out in the open and criticized TRS. Suryam has said that chairmen of some districts have called his party leaders and informed about the phone calls they had received from KCR expressing displeasure over the style of functioning of Kodandaram and asking them to help remove him. He said New Democracy had demanded immediate convening of the JAC meeting and Kodandaram had agreed. Suryam has said it was highly improper on the part of KCR to state that it was he who has created JAC and hence it should act according to his diktats. This amounts to unilateral and feudalistic behavior, Suryam said. When TRS and BJP take on each other in an election, he said JAC could not express support to any one of them. JAC was created to fight for Telangana and not for ensuring the victories of political parties. He said his party was viewing at KCR’s behavior as violation of the terms and conditions under which JAC was created and accepted by all the partners. He said it was unfair on the part of either TRS or BJP to demand support of the JAC for them in the Parakala by-election. If JAC supports one particular party it would lose its credibility, he added. Stating that Kodandaram should maintain independent stance, he said no one has the authority to dictate terms to him.
