Washington, May 10: As India announced plans to take the issue of "discriminatory" increase in US visa fees to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Washington assured it continued to fully support the admission of qualified Indians. The US and India "did have a good and thorough discussion" on the visa issues in the context of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's recent visit to India, State department spokesperson Victoria Nuland told reporters Wednesday. As Clinton said it publicly "Indians are the greatest beneficiaries in the world of both our L-1 visa programme and our H-1B visa programme," she said when asked about India's reported move. "We understand that the demand is even greater. We are working through those issues. But we continue to fully support the admission of qualified Indians under these programmes," Nuland said. Under its Emergency Border Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2010, US sharply hiked the fee for H-1B and L-1 visas used by Indian and American companies to bring qualified professionals from abroad and for intra-company transfers respectively. Indian Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya M. Scindia told parliament Wednesday that New Delhi "proposes to seek consultations with the US under the Dispute Settlement Understanding of the WTO." Asked if the visa fees hike issue was discussed during the Clinton visit, Nuland said: "No."

Investments poured into Jagan Co.s under pressure: CBI Hyderabad, May 10: The CBI has informed the Special Court that none of the shareholders had invested their money in the companies owned by YSR Congress chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy voluntarily. The CBI, on Thursday, filed its counter to the petition filed by Jagati publications challenging CBI’s decision to freeze its bank accounts. In the counter petition, the CBI has stated that both Jagan Mohan Reddy and the company’s vice-chairman Vijaya Sai Reddy had threatened NRI Madhava Chandran and made him invest Rs 39.60 crores. The agency also alleged that bribes were shown as investments. The CBI has frozen accounts held by Jagati Publications and Indira Television in the State Bank of India and Oriental Bank of Commerce. Challenging the CBI action, the two companies on Wednesday filed petitions pleading that the CBI action be annulled, as more than 20,000 employees would be affected. The company also said that it was spending Rs 8 crores towards salaries and Rs 25 crores for purchase of newsprint. The companies have alleged that by freezing the bank accounts, the right of livelihood of the employees was scuttled by the CBI. Admitting the petition, the CBI court directed the agency to file its counter, which was filed on Thursday.

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan is to meet Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot Wednesday in connection with female foeticide cases highlighted by the TV reality show "Satyamev Jayate". "Aamir had expressed his desire to meet the chief minister on May 9. The chief minister has agreed to meet him at his official residence at 5 p.m. today (Wednesday)," said a senior official in the chief minister's office. Khan in his programme "Satyamev Jayate", aired Sunday, had highlighted the story of a sting operation done seven years back by two Jaipur based journalists to expose increasing female foeticide cases in four states - Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Following the expose, the Rajasthan government had come down heavily on doctors who were involved in sex determination tests and abortions and had started a probe against them. The doctors since then have neither been promoted nor have been cleared of the charges. Aamir had said in his show that he would appeal to the Rajasthan chief minister to get the cases against the doctors clubbed together and tried in a fast track court. He also appealed the viewers to support his signature campaign. Gehlot Tuesday tweeted: "Satyamev Jayate is a great and extra ordinary initiative to root out female foeticide. I am eager to have a fruitful dialogue with Aamir on May 9." Rajasthan has been in the news for increasing cases of female foeticide and female infanticide. According to Census 2011, Rajasthan has 883 girls between the age of 0-6 for every 1,000 boys. The child sex ratio in 2001 was 909. Alarmed over the state's skewed sex ratio, the state government recently announced steps to curb pre-natal sex determination tests at ultrasound clinics.

Hyderabad, May 8: In a surprising move, CBI has frozen the accounts of Jagati Publications, publishers of Sakshi newspaper, Indira Teligision, and Janani Infra companies owned by the YSR Congress president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday. CBI has taken this action under section of the 102 of the C R P C as it suspects that investments into these companies came through suspicious means. Jagan who has been away at Anantapur at the time of the decision, has said he knew all along that CBI would do this some day. Addressing an election meeting at Kanekal in Rayadurgam constituency of Anantapur district, he said freezing of accounts was stamping out democratic rights. He said Sakshi media could not be contained through such draconian acts. The Telangana Electronic Media Journalists Association has condemned the CBI act. The association has warned that the government should own responsibility for the inconvenience caused to the Journalists. Senior Editor ABK Prasad has also termed the CBI act as undemocratic. Hyderabad, May 9: Herbal tea shop owner on the premises of Gandhi Bhavan G Balaji has allegedly cheated some 60 gullible people and collected nearly Rs 50 lakhs by assuring them that he would procure Bhoodan land at Kuntloor village, near Nagole at a cheaper price. Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, one of the victims, S Sudhakar, alleged that he had paid Rs 5 lakhs to Balaji as he claimed that ministers and MLAs were his friends and that he could procure them house plots at cheaper rate. But, Balaji failed to keep his promise. The victims said that they soon realized his true colors and demanded him to repay their hard-earned money. But, coolly ignored their demands and did not return their money so far. They also alleged that Balaji was continuing his illegal activities and collecting handsome sums from people. When enquired about Balaji’s credentials, Bhoodan Board chairman said that Balaji was not a member in the Board. The victims have demanded that the State government cancel his herbal tea shops at Gandhi Bhavan and Secretariat and initiate action against him for cheating the gullible people. They also urged Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy to order stringent action against Balaji and make him refund money to all the victims. Sudhakar said as Balaji had promised to procure 100-yard plot for Rs 30,000, many people paid him money and some even lakhs for acquiring a couple of acres. He also produced a Xerox copy of a receipt dated January 7, 2009, issued by G Balaji acknowledging receipt of Rs 5 lakh from N Raghava Rao, son of N Srinivasa Rao, for getting clearance of land in S No 353 and 354 at Kukatpally village under Balanagar mandal of Ranga Reddy district. The alleged victims Babu, Gopal, Vekataiah and Veeraiah were also present at the press meet.

Hyderabad, May 9: A day after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) froze its bank accounts, the Sakshi Group of companies owned by YSR Congress party leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy Wednesday filed a petition challenging the investigating agency's move. Jagati Publications, which publishes Telugu daily Sakshi and Indira Television, which runs the 24-hour Telugu news channel Sakshi, urged the CBI court here to defreeze their bank accounts. The petition alleged that the CBI action had endangered the livelihood of 20,000 employees. The court directed the CBI to file a counter and adjourned the hearing to Thursday. All the three companies were named in the FIR registered by the CBI in August last year following a direction from Andhra Pradesh high court. However, only Jagati Publications figured in the three chargesheets the federal agency has so far filed in the court. The son of late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has termed the CBI action as "daylight murder" of democracy aimed at stifling his media units. A statement issued on behalf of Jagati Publications and Indira TV Wednesday said the CBI move had virtually paralysed Sakshi newspaper, which has a daily circulation of 14.5 lakh, and Sakshi TV. YSR Congress party alleged that the action was taken without serving a prior notice on the organisations. "No explanation has been called for by CBI. This is nothing but a clear violation of the fundamental rights guaranteed to citizens...." "We wonder as to how the CBI came to the conclusion that we have been parking ill-gotten funds in these current accounts. In these current accounts we deposit the monies we get by sale of the paper and proceeds of advertisement and meet there from expenditure on establishment and operations. Where is the ill-gotten money in these transactions," the party asked. The CBI froze the current accounts of the three firms a day after the CBI court issued summons to Jagan and 12 others with regard to the first chargesheet filed by the CBI on March 31. The CBI had booked a case against Jagan and 72 others in August last year. According to the federal agency, Jagan conspired with his father and then chief minister to grant favours to several companies which invested huge money into his businesses on quid-pro-quo basis.

Hyderabad, May 8: Although there is an information that the TRS Supremo KCR has his own choice for the Parakal by election candidature, the Warangal district Telangana Rastra Samithi is still placed in a confusion over the selection of a suitable candidate for the by polls slated on June 12.

The leaders participating in the Palle bata and Palle Nidra programmes organized in the four revenue mandals spread across the Parakal segments feel that they would be preferred by KCR for the by polls. About eight leaders have staked their claims for the Parakal seat and three of them have seriously taken part in the TRS sponsored programme by visiting almost all the four mandals of the segment.

The three leaders include Moluguri Bhikshapathi, Peddi Sudarshan Reddy and M. Sahodar Reddy respectively, while two other leaders Nagurla Venkateshwar Rao and Kanneboyina Rajaiah Yadav also staked their claims for the coveted seat. These leaders are confident that the TRS would romp home the elections with a huge margin.

The high command observers took the opinions and confidential opinions on the candidates and aspirants thoroughly but they have not come to a clear conclusion over the selection. There is a firm opinion that the leaders would submit a report requesting the TRS chief KCR to take a decision on his own to complete the formality.

The main opposition party in the state Telugu Desam Party, which had recently lashed out at PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana on his alleged irregularities in liquor sales, has come up with interesting allegations on Monday. The party has found fault with Botsa for his alleged investments in movies that are being produced by a junior actor-turned-producer Bandla Ganesh. The question they raised was how could a junior artiste produce flicks casting top heroes with big budgets despite series of flops. TDP cited giant producers Ramanaidu and Ashwini Dutt to make a point. The party leaders said that even Ramanaidu and Ashwini Dutt were in hibernation when their flicks bombed at box offices. Nonetheless, a junior artiste is successful in making continuous high budget films even after they received poor response from the public. Telugu Desam leader Varla Ramaiah has alleged that Bandla Ganesh was a binamee of Botsa Satyanarayana and Botsa allegedly used Ganesh for purchasing 2700 acres of assigned lands in Hyderabad. The party leader has also accused Bandla Ganesh for threatening film personalities by allegedly using Botsa Satyanarayana’s name. He has also said that a film financier was threatened by Ganesh after the former demanded the latter to give away his one crore rupees investment. But, the police didn’t register a case and all this because he was supported by Botsa, he added. Further, he said Bothsa became the kind of benami politics. I’m no binami, but just a fan: The producer of the much awaited flick of power star, Gabbar Singh, Bandla Ganesh has cleared the allegations that are in the air against his investments. Ganesh has stressed that he was not a binami to anyone but just a fan of Botsa Satyanarayana. Elucidating more on his money, Bandla Ganesh has said that he had procured huge amounts of money from the real estate and poultry businesses

Walt Disney's (DIS.N) blockbuster "The Avengers" has five superheroes and record ticket sales. It also has a silent partner in Viacom's (VIAB.O) Paramount Pictures, which stands to get a healthy payday even though the studio didn't spend a cent to produce or market the film. Paramount already collected $57.5 million in April, when the film was released internationally. And it stands to collect 8 percent of the millions that the film will earn in theaters, on DVD, and when it is watched on the Internet, according to two people with knowledge of the deal. Under a 2005 distribution agreement between Paramount and Marvel, Paramount receives a distribution fee for the theatrical distribution of "The Avengers" as well as its distribution of its home video, Internet and TV rights. That agreement transferred to Disney, when Disney acquired Marvel for $4 billion in 2009. Disney and Paramount agreed in 2010 to amend that agreement, giving Disney the rights to distribute Marvel-produced "The Avengers" and "Iron Man 3," the second sequel to the 2008 film that Paramount distributes. That agreement stipulated that Disney would pay Paramount a $115 million advance against future fees that Paramount would have earned. Half of that fee was paid when Disney released "The Avengers" in international markets. Spokesmen for Disney and Paramount would not comment. Paramount does not have rights to merchandise from the Marvel movies, and Iger told investors after the deal closed that he signed the getting the movie rights allows he to rev up Disney's marketing machine. "Not only will we distribute it and market it, but we know that Marvel is working really hard with the cooperation of a number of entities at Disney to turn The Avengers into a true franchise," he said on the earnings call. Studios and theater owners generally split ticket sales 50-50, meaning that Disney has collected $320.9 million based on "The Avengers" $641.8 million in worldwide ticket sales. Paramount's $25.7 million take would be applied against the pre-paid fee from Disney. The two sides also agreed that "The Avengers" would appear on the Epix online and premium TV service that Paramount owns with Lions Gate Entertainment (LGF.N) and the MGM studio. That's a big boost for the nearly three-year-old channel. Disney is obligated to show most of its movies on the Starz pay channel. How large Paramount's take will be depends on how big a hit "The Avengers" becomes. The deal gets even better for Paramount in 2013, when Disney is scheduled to release the third Iron Man. Paramount will get 9 percent of the money that film will generate.

Bandla Ganesh an unimpressive comedian has produced big budget films with top stars like Pawan Kalyan. Where from has he got so much money?

It is a known fact in the film industry that the PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana was the financial backbone of Ganesh.

But did Ganesh also have the backing of Bhanu Kiran, the alleged killer of Rayalaseema factionist Maddelacheruvu Suri? This is the question being discussed in the film industry now.

Film distributor Subba Rao has told the media on Saturday that Bandla Ganesh, producer of ‘Teen Maar’ has cheated him financially and when he has questioned him, he had threatened him in the name of Botsa.

The distributor said that he has given Rs. 2.25 cr. for the overseas rights of ‘Teen Maar’ and Ganesh has cheated him by not giving prints on time. When he has questioned him, Ganesh has threatened him in the name of Botsa and also said that he had the backing of rowdies, Subbarao has alleged. He said he had lost Rs. 48 lakhs because he could not screen the premier show. He has also demanded a probe by the CID into how Ganesh was  investing crores of rupees in film production.

Now it is being discussed in the film industry if Ganesh had links with Bhanu and if that was true if Botsa also has some kind of relationship with the gangster.

You might have understood by now regarding what we are talking about. If the whole episode of Bhanu can be used against YSR Congress, Bandla Ganesh against Congress, then who is going to play spoilsport for Telugudesam.

As don Bhanu is revealing many things related to his association with Mangali Krishna, a close aide of YS Jagan, opposition is busy equating his misdeeds with YSR Congress. Likewise, based on a complaint lodged by an overseas distributor, some people are trying to relate produce Ganesh Babu's money as PCC Chief Botsa Satyanarayana's benami investment.

These two persons have become food for political parties who are trying to corner YSR Congress and Congress. Political circles are now saying that alleged sex scandal queen Tara Chowdary has links with a young MLA from Telugudesam party. If they could pull out a little clue at least against this politician, it is sure that TDP will dig its own grave.

The backbone of the entertainment industry has always been the presence of glamour. We are talking about the presence of beautiful actresses and sexy ladies who bring a special charm. So, it doesn't really matter if they are scoring success in their careers, as long as they are onscreen it is fun. That seems to be the logic behind the making of this new movie. Well, it is heard that a new project has hit the floors in Tollywood and this has not one or two but a total of four flop heroines. They are the Juicy Kamna Jethmalani, sensuous Bhanusri Mehra, highly erotic Nikitha and the giggly beauty Swetha Basu Prasad. This film is being directed by Udaykanth while Srinivas Raju is the producer. Buzz is that this is a heroine oriented movie and all four of them will have key roles to play. What many are waiting to see is who will be the lucky man to be present amidst them. Only time will reveal that.

'We're hurt all these days because Congress leaders haven't solved our differences with Chiru, though he has became the face of party now', says Rajasekhar. However Rajasekhar never cleared who has resolved their differences, but nodded his head to join hands with Chiru if they are ordered to do so. State's political circles are shocked with the moves of Jeevitha and Rajasekhar and are busy finding reasons behind their joining hands with Chiru. Observers are saying that Rajasekhar is trying for an MP ticket in Congress for 2014 polls and hence this move.

Formation of Telangana with Hyderabad is our main agenda, said Congress MPs from Telangana region. In a ‘meet the press’ programme organized by the Telangana Journalists’ Forum in Hyderabad, the Congress MPs Jagannatham, Ponnam Prabhakar and Vivekananda have briefed about their agenda. The leaders have called upon all the political leaders from all the parties to join the parade in Delhi that is scheduled to take place before the current parliament sessions conclude. “Put aside the party flags and come forward to take part in the movement,” said MP Ponnam Prabhakar. In case the Centre doesn’t react to our protest, then we would discuss and decide the strategy to be adopted in presidential elections, said MPs. The MPs have also demanded the TDP leaders from Telangana region to press Chandrababu Naidu to write a letter in favour of the bifurcation to the Centre. Not against the Centre & high command: In the wake of rumours that the Congress MPs were going against the high command, MP Manda Jagannatham has said that their fight was not against the Centre and high command. All that they request the Centre was to keep up its promise. The leaders have lashed out at the Governor and the chief minister stating that they were allegedly sending wrong reports to the Centre on Telangana issue. With MPs pressing the Centre without taking on the party but asking for sticking to its promise, the high command will apparently welcome the demand of MPs. But, the clear cut statement will presumably come after by-polls.

The much awaited programme Satyamev Jayate has started on a grand note to an ode to motherhood. Satyamev Jayate is a reality show that throws focus on lives of the people, their pains, problems, hurdles and how bravely they fought them.
Started in multiple languages, Satyamev Jayate was successful in dragging lakhs of people to television screens sharp at 11 AM on Sunday. The first episode of Satyamev Jayate began with Aamir Khan briefing the greatness of mother. And the episode was all about female foeticide. Aamir Khan told the fellow countrymen that ‘ a man is responsible for a birth of female and a woman has no role in it.’ Before Aamir Khan went into the statistics and how this female infanticide began in India, he spoke to three mothers who faced countless series of problems for carrying female foetuses. Aamisha, an average mother from Gujarat was the first woman who came to the reality show—Satyamev Jayate to share her feelings of motherhood with Aamir Khan. Married in December 2000, Amisha had to undergo abortions six times within eight years. She said she was taken to a hospital, given an injection and by the time she opened her eyes..she lost her baby in the stomach. She said doctors talk in code language to tell the family on sex determination. If it was a boy they would say Jai Shree Krishna and Jai Mata Di if a girl. Last time when she was conceived, she wanted to save the child, and went to her parent’s home where she gave birth to a baby girl. Her in laws later took her and her daughter to home. She was ill-treated and kicked out of home and she was not given her daughter. She at last took the help of a lawyer to get her daughter and now the case is in the court. The second mother who came to the show was Parveen Khan from Madhya Pradesh who was married in 1994. She was ill-treated for giving birth to two girls. She was even attacked brutally one day by her husband. With the help of doctors, she was saved. She said she now completed her B.A, got a good job and even taking care of her family. The show then aired a few bytes of some people who spoke on reasons behind female foeticide. Many were of the opinion that illiterate and rural people are indulging in crimes. Negating these opinions, the show introduced Dr. Mitu Khurana who was also a victim of female foeticide. Mitu faced n number of problems for denying ultra sound test when she was conceived. She gave birth to twin baby girls. Dr. Mitu Khurana approached the court over the bad treatment she received. The case is now in the court. Aamir Khan later introduced a researcher, Rambabu. He has said that even urban people, educated ones indulge in female foeticides. Even chartered accountant and IAS officers also resort to such crimes. Later who spoke on this issue was Dr. Sailaja who had been practicing in a small village in Rajasthan. She said adivasis never showed any discrimination between boy and a girl. In fact, she said adivasis believe that girl is a sign of fortune. Aamir Khan has said that learned and educated people should learn from adivasis, who treat boy and girl equally. How did female foeticide begin? Dr. Puneet who spoke on the show has told Aamir Khan as to how female foeticide had begun in India. It was in 1970 that the message of population control was wide spread by the authorities. A few doctors were trained at government hospitals on abortions. Those doctors trained in abortions had actually began to play the role of family advisors. They have not only advised family planning but allegedly asked parents to eliminate if a girl was born. Although the Government soon asked hospitals to stop this act, the bullet from the gun had been shot already! And the trained doctors started practicing this heinous act at private clinics. This became a good business to them and in 1990 ultra sound machines came into existence that could determine sex within a few minutes. This not only boosted the business of gynaecologists who allegedly determined the sex and later eliminated the girl babies but also the manufacturers of ultra sound machines. Dr. Puneet said India should implement what Korea implemented a few years ago in their country in order to put a check to the same. Korea Government cracked its whip against all those doctors removing foetuses. The doctors were kept in jails and their licences cancelled. The problem of female foeticide came to an end within a year. Dr. Puneet has also said that all the doctors who did abortions in India should be kept in Tihar jail. Even women doctors are also involved in this crime, he added. When Aamir Khan asked as to how many doctors’ licences were cancelled by Medical Council of India (MCI), Dr. Puneet said that not even one licence was cancelled over the same. Later two journalists—Mr. Sheikawat and Meena spoke to Aamir Khan on their sting operation seven years ago, which was on female foeticide. The footage revealed many doctors who were allegedly ready to do abortions. The case is now in different courts since many doctors are involved in this and unfortunately even arrest warrants were issued on the journalists. Satyamev Jayate team went to a group of unmarried men in a village in Haryana. They told that were not married since there were hardly any brides available. And they blame female foeticide for their unmarried status. That’s in fact true; elimination of girls would only result in an imbalanced sex ratio. Aamir Khan called upon everyone to realize the importance of women. He has asked people to grow from within and put a check to this problem. The show received good response. It’s sure that Satyamev Jayate would have an impact on a large number of people.

Senior Congress party leader and Guntur MP, Rayapati Sambasiva Rao admonished Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy. He said the Congress was vitiated in the State under his rule and the party will be thrashed in the by-polls. He is the second senior Congress leader to criticize publicly CM Kiran Kumar Reddy ahead of crucial by-polls slated on June 12, to 18 Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha constituency. Rayapati said, "No community can afford to stay with the Congress given the attitude of the Chief Minister. Even if some candidates are changed now, it will in no way alter the fate of the party in the bypolls." He also stated, "Kiran Kumar is more interested in himself than the party that has made him CM.” Similarly, another senior leader and Health Minister D L Ravindra Reddy criticized the CM and even dubbed Kiran as a 'covert' of YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy. Like Rayapati, DL also predicted that the Congress under Kiran Kumar would be defeated in the bypolls. Incidentally, Rayapati’s outbursts against the CM came on a day when PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana met Ravindra Reddy and urged him to hold his fire against Kiran Kumar at least until the bypolls are held. Rayapati said the Congress was sure to bite the dust in Macherla and Prathipadu (SC) constituencies in Guntur district. He said, "In both these constituencies, farmers form the bulk of the voters. But ignoring the ground realities, Kiran has repeatedly ignored my various suggestions including appointing somebody as in-charge to oversee the developmental works in these two segments." "I suggested to him that a Kamma leader be appointed chairman of the Guntur market yard, which is the biggest in the country and falls under the Prathipadu assembly constituency. In Prathipadu, most of the farmers belong to the Kamma community and constitute 45,000 voters (followed by 35,000 SC voters). However, the CM is favouring a member of the Vysya community for the post of market yard chairman. Given the animosity between the farmers and the traders, the farmers would make sure that the Congress loses in the bypoll," reasoned the MP. Rayapati said his suggestion to the Chief Minister that a Kamma should be appointed as head of the Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali- Mangalagiri urban development authority was also ignored

HYDERABAD: The state government on Thursday said that the new physics marks obtained in the advance supplementary exam being held on May 16 for the 1.8 lakh Intermediate students who failed in it would not figure in the Eamcet merit list. Secondary education minister K Parthasarathy said that Eamcet rank list was scheduled to be out on May 24 and the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) was in no position to declare its results before that. Eamcet officials have made it clear that the rank list announcement would not be postponed.

Furious students and parents, whose protest had forced the government to agree to advance the exam date from May 24 to 16, held a protest in front of BIE office on Thursday. "If the government is not willing to consider the new marks while calculating Eamcet ranks, why did they advance the date? They raised false hopes," said N Nagaraju, a parent. Ironically, the government had advanced the dates to allow the students to be eligible for competitive examinations, including Eamcet, BITSAT (for BITS, Pilani), IIT-JEE and AIEEE.

Higher education minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha has reportedly called for a state-level meeting of all stakeholders, including AP State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE), Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University ( JNTU) and Board of Intermediate Education on Friday to discuss the issue.

Till last year, students taking advance supplementary examinations were considered for the Eamcet rank list. But this year, the higher education department issued a GO in the second week of April - before the Inter results - saying that these students would not be considered for Eamcet as hardly a few hundred appeared for it.

However, in an unusual development this year, a huge number (1.8 lakh or 31% of total Inter students) failed in the physics paper. Protests finally forced the state government to advance the advance
supplementary exam date to May 16. Of the total 5.6 lakh students who appeared for the physics paper, 4.8 lakh are appearing for the advance supplementary, including the 1.8 lakh who failed.

HOWRAH: A 47-year-old schoolteacher from Howrah was hauled up for showing pornographic material on his mobile phone to students. Bally resident Debasis Das, who taught English at Belur High School, was arrested on Thursday after parents lodged a complaint against him. Das was also suspended from the school immediately.

A couple of months ago, MLAs of Karnataka and Gujarat were accused of watching it in their respective Assemblies. And now, a 47-year-old schoolteacher from Howrah has been hauled up for showing pornographic material in his mobile phone to students. Bally resident Debasis Das, who taught English in the Belur High School, was arrested on Thursday after parents lodged a complaint against him. He was also suspended from the school immediately.

Das taught English to students of Classes V to VIII in the all boys' school. On Thursday morning, hundreds of parents turned up at the school and demanded a meeting with headmaster Tapas Chattopadhyay. The headmaster was shocked when the parents accused Das of showing obscene photographs and film clips on his mobile phone to their sons. The parents also staged a demonstration outside the school premises demanding the teacher's suspension.

The parents then lodged a complaint with the police, accusing Das of sexually harassing their children. Das was arrested and taken to the police station.

"The governing body of the school is taking this charge very seriously and we have suspended him. I will also take up the matter with the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. In December, 2011, this teacher was suspended for academic reasons. The suspension was revoked in the end of March and he started taking classes again. We are treating this complaint very seriously though," Chattopadhyay said.

Nishat Pervez, DC(HQ), Howrah City Police, confirmed that the teacher was arrested and investigations were on. Display of pornographic material to minors is a punishable offence in India and Das is liable to be sentenced if the charges against him are proved.

NAGPUR: A day after the case of a drunk man raping his mother-in-law was reported at Koradi police station, another shocking incident of a four-year-old girl being raped was reported at Nandanvan police station on Wednesday.

According to the police, the girl and her younger brother were asleep when their mother heard her screaming. When she rushed to the room, she found her daughter bleeding. The mother then made a police complaint.

However, in the medical reports the doctors mentioned that it is very difficult to say whether the girl was sexually assaulted or not.

Senior police inspector Sunil Jaiswal said, "As per the medical reports, there is bleeding but no injury was found. Yet, as claimed by the mother, we have registered an offence of rape against an unknown culprit."

According to the police, the victim and her family had come to the city to attend her uncle's marriage on Tuesday. The family hailed from Nagbhid.

On Wednesday night, the girl, her brother and other children were asleep in the uncle's house at Abbu Miya Nagar while the family members and other relatives had gone to the reception party which was being held about 20 metres from the house in a pandal.

Around 10.30pm, the girl's mother came to the house for some work and heard her daughter crying. Spotting the blood stains, she told in her complaint that the kid has been either raped or an attempt has been made.

Cops said that since the girl is still crying in pain and is too small to give a statement, the case is not clear. "The victim has now recovered from the pain and her mother is questioning her slowly with some woman constables. So far, the girl has not said about any relative had come to her or any stranger. She is repeatedly saying that she felt something like a needle hurting her," said Jaiswal.

Cops are still questioning the other children asleep in the same room and other relatives.

Hyderabad, May 2: “Power is not a means it is an end. One does not establish a political power in order to safeguard a revolution. One makes the revolution to establish political power” Ironically, the political masters and the TPJAC, a platform of intellectual cahoots that have been leading the “Telangana movement” (the Ultimate War for Telangana & a revolution of its own kind) began to safeguard their political powers at the cost of the movement. In the process, they turned the movement which has been spiraling out to be a ground swell of peoples’ sentiment into a show of an extended and a brazen form of an ordinary “political confrontation” that one comes across day in day out among the political class. In the process they are unashamedly engaged in slugfest in trying to establish a political power in the guise of championing the ongoing Telangana movement. Instead of consolidating the movement to establish political power, they are engaged in political slugfest to claim the authority over it. As a result the very existence of TJAC has become doubtful with its two main constituents TRS and BJP pulling it in different directions. The TRS wants to send the BJP out of the joint action committee which has been spearheading the Telangana Movement after branding it as a communal party. Not satisfying with that KCR, TRS supremo even wants to throw out Kodandaram from TPJAC who hitherto been known as a religiously sincere marionette of KCR. It appears that the subservient Kodandaram has suddenly become a thing of allergy to KCR. The whole game plan of both the main Telangana protagonist parties is to hog unrivalled domination over Telangana movement so as to consolidate the Telangana vote in their favour. In the process they gave a new dimension to political equations in Telangana region subjecting the Telangana protagonists into confusion and tearing TPJAC asunder. Aware of TRS' game plan, the BJP is working hard to spread its roots wide and deep in the region to become a force to reckon with, and is leveraging heavily on its national party's image and its commitment to the Telangana cause. With the Parkal by-election round the corner, the TRS wants to execute its plan to expel the BJP out of TJAC and thus gain electoral advantage in the by-election which the BJP is also fighting. The TRS is worried about the growing strength of the BJP and wants to clip the saffron party's wings so that it could not pose a threat to its own existence. On the other hand, wanting to play its cards carefully, the BJP is ready to face the TRS but wants to remain in the TJAC to derive political benefit. It plans to take the help of other Telangana organisations to check the growing clout of the TRS with TJAC. Once again the sentiments and aspirations of Telangana people seemed to have become a plaything for politicians. The sudden turnaround and decision of leadership to tear TPJAC asunder to hog the political domination indicated a “movement failed and politics won situation”. The Ultimate war for Telangana suddenly became a mission to reclaim political supremacy and became an unwelcome distraction from real cause. The movement instead of becoming an instrument to achieve Telangana has turned out to be an ocean of chaos. If the latest developments are any indication, the progress of an emotionally appealing movement suddenly morphed into a new election platform for politicians. The movement has become a battle to be waged before media cameras as it is more of scoring political points. Its impetus, it seems did not spring from the inchoate and deeper sentiment of the people, but much from the imperatives of electoral politics. There seemed to be nothing transcendent and epochal about the self styled Ultimate war, it is more of inspiring the voters and messianic rhetoric of its leadership. History has a fascinating way of playing with the human beings in ways they themselves are unable to comprehend. History once again proved that it can be repeated, Telangana people are playing their roles on the stage of current Telangana movement without knowing that their actions can draw parallel to the long forgotten actors who left the same stage, while the character of the politicians leading the present movement in many ways seemed to be relics of compromise witnessed on the same stage in 1969.

Hyderabad, May 3: People of the Sitaphalmandi area in the heart of the city have been spending sleepless nights, fearing that ghosts were on the prowl, killing innocent people. A series of deaths of children has caused the residents of some of the areas of Sitaphalmandi suspect that it was the work of evil forces. Residents said that one healthy person who was talking with his friends has suddenly rushed into his house and hanged himself, for no reason. Residents are stating that several such inexplicable deaths were occurring in the area. Residents wrote the name of Lord ‘Ram’ prominently on the outer walls of their houses in red paint, to dispel evil forces. Youth are patrolling the streets with sticks, through the nights so that elders could sleep peacefully (though none could explain how they proposed to attack a ghost with a stick). Visits of representatives of Jana Vignana Vedika (which campaigns for rational and scientific thinking) to the area, have not helped instill any confidence among the residents. Fearing the ghosts, several people have locked their houses and went off to relatives’ places. Some are spending the days at their houses and sleeping in temples during nights. However, neither the government nor other political parties have done anything to restore confidence among the people as they were all busy with their election strategies.

Skin shows, bikinis, lip-locks and other side businesses are encouraged for heroines as long as their status update is 'single'. Once they tie the holy knot everything should change, else their families may not support them. We have seen a bunch of aunties returning to silver screen even after marriage. If they pick some family roles that look dignified, everything goes well. Else, if they shed clothes again, marriages will be disastrous. Looks like, same kind of thoughts are worrying the in-laws of cute heroine Sneha, who is going to ring wedding bells on May 11th. Reports are heard here and there that this tempting beauty wants to continue in films even after marriage. But, she hasn't given the clarity about the kind of roles she will be taking up. People are saying that it became possible only for ravishing damsel Aishwarya Rai to rock as a top heroine even after marriage that too with a bit a skin show. They feel that Sneha's case is different and she may not get her 'wild dreams' satisfied without support from in-laws.

Fair and lovely beauty Tamanna has scored the first blockbuster of her career with Racha. She has a big role to play in this magical success. Tamanna's glamour is one of the prime reasons for mass audience to watch Racha multiple times. This film brought her immense craze among the masses and Tamanna is hoping to build on this foundation.

However, Tamanna is being branded as 'Mega' heroine as she is doing films with all the mega heroes that are currently in action. After pairing up with Allu Arjun and Ram Charan, Tamanna is all set to romance Pawan Kalyan in Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu. She has also done 100% Love film produced by Allu Aravind. She starred in Oosaravelli in between and currently doing Endukante Premanta with Ram and Rebel with Prabhas.

Recently she opted out of Mahesh, Sukumar's film and signed on the dotted line for Rambabu. This gave an impression that she is only willing to do films with mega heroes. But Tamanna strongly condemned these speculations and stated that she is open to do films with all the heroes. She told that a series of films with mega heroes happened by chance and she didn't plan to do so.

Hyderabad, May 3: TRS senior leader and former MP Vinod has said that as the union Home Minister Chidambaram has informed the Lok Sabha that the TDP chief Chandra Babu Naidu has met him in connection with the Telangana issue, it has now become clear that it was Naidu who had scuttled the Telangana process.

Talking to the media here on Thursday, Vinod said in sharp contrast to Chandrababu’s claim several times in the past that he never met Chidambaram; the Home Minister has specifically stated that he had met him. He said with this, the real nature of Naidu has been exposed.

He said while Naidu was duping the people by stating that he and his party were staunch supporters of the 'T' cause, he has been subverting the process all along.

Vinod has demanded that Naidu must clarify in what context he has met the Home Minister. If he has not met Chidambaram as he has been claiming, he should move a privilege notice against the union minister for giving misleading information to the Lok Sabha, he added.
