Shourya Movie Review

Dasaradh who is known for making family entertainers like Santosham and Mr. Perfect tried his hand at thriller genre with Shourya. This had a good point but the director failed to get it right with the screenplay and execution.

What is it about?
Shourya (Manoj) and Netra (Regina) fall in love and decide to get married. But one night someone slices Netra's throat and police takes Shourya in to custody as the prime suspect. A police officer (Prakash Raj) believes Shourya is innocent, but Shourya admits that he has killed Netra as she cheated him. What happened between the couple and what led to Shourya taking such hasty action?

Performances:
Manchu Manoj delivered a fine performance, but is on the weightier side. His performance in the penultimate scenes is good. Regina is beautiful. She did a decent job as Netra. Prakash Raj is impressive as the sincere cop. Prabhas Sreenu shines here and there. Brahmanandam's cameo is wasted. Subbaraju and others have did their bit.

Technicalities:
Dasaradh tried to offer something new for the audience. His intentions are commendable but should have taken care of the script to make it a gripping thriller. There are few instances where the movie strikes a chord, but the director failed to maintain the tempo that is much needed for a thriller.

Music is mediocre and the songs are shot poorly. Dialogues are just okay. Editing is pretty bad. Movies like these need slick and sharp editing. Cinematography is average.

Thumbs Up:
Manoj

Interval Bang

Thumbs Down:
Slow Pace

Botched up screenplay

Weak Direction

Analysis:

Shourya has an interesting premise and opens with an intriguing monologue saying that every story has three sides to it. The film will catch your attention right at that point and prepares you for a thrilling ride. However the proceedings are anything but thrilling. Movie moves at a snail pace with some absolutely pointless scenes that takes the plot nowhere.

Love story between the lead pair is boring and makes you fall asleep. Things get interesting only at the interval scene where the hero reveals that he has killed the heroine. We expect the film to put us on the edge of the seat after that point, but Dasaradh once again takes a relaxing approach that doesn't let the film grow on you.

Only the last confrontation of Prakash Raj and Manoj packs a punch, but it is too late by then. Shourya could have been a very good thriller as the plot is interesting. It takes a nosedive because of poor screenplay. In the end we only wish the movie is as interesting as its trailer.

Verdict: Sleep inducing Thriller.
