F Tollywood Celebrities !!: Kanyasulkam Gireesham No More!

JV Ramana Murthy, well-known to Telugu theatre and movie lovers as Gireesham after his role in Gurazada Apparao's popular play Kanyasulkam, died on Wednesday. He breathed his last at a private hospital while undergoing treatment for a heart-related ailment. He was 83. 

Ramana Murthy is brother of JV Somayajulu who is popular for films like Sankarabharanam. Ramana Murthy's passion for Kanyasulkam was such that he, along with his actor brother JV Somayajulu, played it for about 500 times in 45 years. Somayajulu had died in April, 2004 following a heart stroke. Since then, Ramana Murthy remained to brief roles. 

Born on May 20, 1933 in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh, Ramana Murthy had started acting in dramas since his childhood. NGO, Kappalu, Evaru Donga, Keerthi Seshulu were some of the famous plays he did. 

Jonnalagadda Venkata Ramana Murthy had made his debut in movies in 1957 with 'MLA' movie which featured Jaggayya, Savitri, Gummadi, Rama Reddy who were popular of that age. He had acted in more than 150 films in his career. His filmography includes Batasaari, Maro Charitra, Gorintaku, Aakali Rajyam, Saptapadi, Shubalekha, Sirivennela, Ananda Bhairavi, Kartavyam. Ramana Murthy was also seen in Chiranjeevi's Shankardada Zindabad. - S
