In a shocking incident, a village caste panchayat in Nashik, Maharashtra has declared a newly wedded girl as 'not virgin' following her husband's allegation that she had failed the indigenous 'virginity test'. The panchayat also allowed the husband to end his marriage only 2 days after he tied the knot with the girl.
According to the reports, on May 22, just a day after the marriage, the caste panchayat, despite the law banned all such caste based bodies, reportedly gave a white bedsheet to the groom asking him to return it after the wedding night.
After the groom returned the bedsheet, the panchayat heads noticed that there were no blood stains on it and allowed the groom to end his marriage, declaring the girl as 'not virgin'. Soon, the news invited a lot of criticism.
Social workers Krishna Chandgude and Ranjana Gavande told the media that the girl had been preparing for recruitment in the police force and had to undergo physical tests and was also practicing running, long jump, cycling and other exercises.
