he Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Thursday busted a  major credit card fraud by arresting two persons who were part of a gang that created fake debit and credit cards by stealing data using skimming machines.

The arrested are identified Kiran D, 34, of Talaghattapura and Neeta, 33, of Kasavanahalli near Parappana Agrahara in the city. Neeta’s husband and the prime suspect, Manoj Kumar, 41, is at large, said the police.

“We received a tip-off that Kumar had conspired a large scale online cheating. He was planning to move out of Bengaluru and a search is on for him,” Inspector General of Police (CID) Hemanth Nimbalkar told reporters.

The police seized a debit/credit card printing machine, a machine reader, a writer machine, two card embossing machines, a SIM card imaging machine, a thermal printing role, VISA/ MasterCard holograms, electronic data capture machines and 2,762 debit/credit cards without names and numbers, three phones, two modems, six bank passbooks, 16 cheque books and two cars from the suspects, Nimbalkar said.

The suspects used skimming machines to retrieve confidential data from credit/debit/ATM cards. The skimming machines read and store the confidential data of  cards once they are swiped. The gang prepared fake credit/debit/ATM cards using this data. They used the fake cards for online purchases and withdrawal of funds. Sometimes, they hacked accounts of not so reliable websites and stole the data, he added.

Kumar, a BBA graduate, was been involved online cheating for the last 14 years. He was first booked by the Chennai police in 2002. The Maharashtra police arrested him in 2003 and he spent about an year in jail. He did not commit any offence for five years after his marriage in 2005. He resumed online cheating a few years later and the Tamil Nady police booked two cases against him in 2011 and 2012, Nimbalkar said.

He fled to Malaysia in 2011 where he came in contact with hackers especially from Indonesia and Malaysia.

He would receive information of Indian credit cards used in those countries and share that information to hackers there.

This resulted in huge illegal operations and the police found it difficult to arrest the suspects, Nimbalkar said.  The Bengaluru police booked a case against Kumar in 2014 when after was involved in a crime in Indiranagar.

The Cyber Crime police of CID arrested him and his wife in December 2015. He came out on bail and continued his operations, the IGP said.

Indore, May 18: The district district court sentenced a 45-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for putting “chastity lock” on his wife's genital area.

Special additional sessions judge A K Singh found Sohan Lal Chouhan guilty under sections 326 (causing grievous hurt) and 498 A (subjecting married woman to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on him.

Meanwhile, public prosecutor Jyoti Tomar said Chouhan was arrested in July 2012. Out of the 14 witnesses presented before the court, three — including the couple's son and daughter — had turned hostile.

"However, the son admitted Chouhan had not allowed him to meet his mother in the last four years," Tomar said. "Besides, the statements of the doctor who had removed the “lock”, the policeman who had recovered the key from Chouhan and an independent witness helped in nailing Chouhan," he added.

Chouhan's cruelty had come to light after his wife tried to commit suicide by consuming poison. While trying to insert a tube to extract the poison, hospital doctors were stunned to see the genitals “locked”. She then revealed her husband had done this by performing a crude surgery on her four years ago. In a statement, she said that her husband suspected her of having an extramarital affair.

The woman was married to Chouhan when she was 16 years old. The cruelty came into limelight after she consumed pesticide after Chouhan tried to rape their elder daughter.

Chicago, May 15:Four Indian Americans are among 89 people charged with healthcare fraud running into about $233 million in false billing after a nationwide strike in eight cities, according to federal authorities.

All the Indian Americans charged are from the Chicago area.

Ankur Roy, Akash Patel, and Dipen Desai, have been charged with six counts of health care fraud each in an indictment that was returned by a federal grand jury last Wednesday and unsealed Tuesday.

The three, who owned and operated Selectcare Health Inc, which provided outpatient physical and respiratory therapy in Park Ridge and Skokie, were charged with submitting more than $4 million in false billings to Medicare between March and July 2011.

Roy, 36, of Miami was arrested Tuesday in south Florida, while Patel, 33, of Morton Grove, and Desai, 33, of Chicago, will be ordered to appear for arraignment on a later date in US District Court in Chicago.

According to the indictment, the three allegedly submitted $4,009,094 in false billings for services that were purportedly provided between April 2010 and April 2011, resulting in payments totaling approximately $2,214,424 from Medicare and $320,881 from Blue Cross Blue Shield.

The indictment seeks forfeiture of $2,535,305 in alleged fraud proceeds, including $446,974 in funds withdrawn by cashiers' cheques that were seized by the FBI in July 2012.

In a second case Dr. Nalini Ahluwalia, 58, was charged with one count of violating the anti-kickback law for allegedly receiving $1,000 in exchange for referring two patients to a home health care agency in Aug 2012.

The charges demonstrate that "we will not tolerate medical professionals and providers who abuse our healthcare system," said Gary S. Shapiro, US Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois.

"We went to the police to register an FIR (First Information Report) but they refused. They never tried to find her, and instead drove us away," the father of the victim told reporters here outside the Swami Dayananda Hospital.

The father said that when the family finally found the girl Wednesday, the police told the family to not highlight the issue, and offered them Rs.2000 to keep mum.

New York, Mar 8: An Indian American company based in Texas has been indicted by federal authorities on charges of fraud in the H-1B visa category and using it to create a low-cost workforce in the US.

The multi-count indictment filed last month against top officials of the Dibon Solutions of Texas -- Atul Nanda, Jiten 'Jay' Nanda, Siva Sugavanam, Vivek Sharma, Rohit Mehra and Mohammad Khan - alleges that the company paid H-1B visa-holding employees only when there was work.

According to the 15-page indictment filed last month and unsealed this month, Nanda brothers - the owners of the company - along with others named in the court conspired to fraud the H-1B system.

The indictment alleges that Dibon hired foreign workers on H-1B visas and instead of paying them, used them to work for a third company and gave them the salary only when they worked for the third company.

The company "sponsored the workers on H-1B visas with the stated purpose of working at Dibon headquarters in Carrollton, Texas, but, in fact, required the workers to provide consulting services to third-party companies located elsewhere," the indictment alleges.

"Contrary to the representations made by the conspirators to the workers (and the government), the conspirators paid the workers only when the conspirators placed the workers at a third-party company and only if the third- party company actually paid Dibon first for the workers' services," it said.

Additionally, in Dibon's visa paperwork, it falsely represented that the foreign workers had full-time positions and were paid an annual salary, as required by regulation to secure the visas, the indictment alleges.

This scheme provided the company with skilled foreign workers who could be used on an "as needed" profitable because it required minimal overhead and Dibon could charge significant hourly rates for a computer consultant's services.

Accordingly, the company charged substantial profit margin when a consultant was assigned to costs when a worker was without billable work.

"This scheme is known as "benching." Benching Department of Labor (DOL) as "workers who are in non-productive' status due to a decision by the employer, such as lack of work."

Dibon actively recruited H-1B workers and "benched" them, the indictment said.

According to the charge-sheet Dibon's "benching" scheme was facilitated by the company as a staffing company.

Dibon employed H-1B work with third-party companies. "The design of the H-1B system worker to perform services for the petitioning company, ie Dibon. In fact, regulations required that a petitioning company inform the government in petitions if the workers were assigned to a different location that the petitioning company's address-which Dibon did not do," it said.

Hyderabad, Feb 22: The bombs that went off at Dilsukhnagar here in the Andhra Pradesh capital Thursday evening, which killed at least 12 people and injured over 50 others, were kept on two bicycles, police said.

Director General of Police V. Dinesh Reddy said they were improvised explosive devices (IEDs) which were triggered with timers. He described them as "powerful blasts".

The terrorists were suspected to have used a mixture of Pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) and ammonium nitrate in the blasts to cause maximum damage.

Unlike in the blasts in Pune, where the terrorists used new bicycles, they planted the bombs on old bicycles in Hyderabad.

Naga Sai, an officer in the bomb disposal squad, said they had not yet reached to any conclusion with regard to the nature of explosives.

He pointed out that unlike in the 2007 blasts, no splinters and balls were found at the blast site.

He said even a small quantity of explosives in a crowded place can cause a large number of casualties.

The officer also said terrorists did not keep distance or time between their targets.

"Both the places are close to each other and the second blast took place immediately after the first one."

Officials of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and forensic experts were gathering clues at the blast scenes well past midnight.

They will be joined by more officials f

eb 21: When Nirbhaya was gang raped and murdered, the Supreme Court said Indian capital was not a safe place for women. Now after Nikhila’s kidnap attempt in the heart of Hyderabad, same doubts are being expressed about the safety of women in the AP capital.

Nikhil More the software professional depended on her own wisdom and courage to escape an apparent rape attempt. No police came to her rescue, though she screamed in terror on public roads. This shows the shallowness of our security system and the dependability of our cops. The traffic policemen who leave the traffic haywire and rush to collect ‘Mamools’ when they find a loaded lorry, are not worried even if women were kidnapped or raped on public roads.

Though police claim that they nabbed the criminals within 24 hours of the crime and boast of their greatness, allowing this offence to happen is itself a clear evidence of the shallowness of the security system. In Nikhil’s case a person who sat by the side of the auto driver turned out to be his accomplice in the crime. It is a common sight in Hyderabad for auto drivers to take their friends in the front seat. To take a second person in the driver’s seat is an offence. Still, police take their regular tips and won’t bother about such violations. It is mostly this second person that turns an accomplice in crimes committed by auto drivers. If Nikhil More had not jumped down from the auto, what would have happened later would be unimaginable. What is the use if the police catch the criminals after a woman was raped or killed?

Nikhil More of Vengurla village in Sindhurga district of Maharashtra is a design engineer working in a software company in Amirpet. She is living with a friend in Narayanaguda in a rented house.

Nikhil went to a beauty parlour in Madhapur after her duty on Tuesday evening. There she boarded a sharing auto to Mytrivanam in Amirpet. There was another person sitting by the driver’s side. All other passengers who boarded the auto got down before the auto reached Mytrivanam, excepting the auto driver’s accomplice sitting by his side.

When Nikhil was alone in the auto, the auto driver diverted the vehicle from the main road. When Nikhil grew suspicious as the driver has been going round for an hour, she called a friend on her mobile and told him what was happening. Auto driver snatched the phone from her, told her friend that they would be coming to Punjagutta in 15 minutes and kept her cell phone with him. Nikhil was shocked when auto driver’s friend caught her tightly, preventing her attempts to jump down. When she screamed, he tightly closed her mouth with his hands. Nikhil some how managed to bring out the pepper spray she was carrying in her bag, escaped by spraying it on the person holding her and jumped down from the auto. She sustained a head injury as she jumped down from a moving vehicle. Navin a software engineer coming that way on his two wheeler behind the auto, rushed her in 108 ambulance to hospital. She is recovering now.

Nowhere in this incident, there was police intervention. Police who boast of catching the criminals within 24 hours, should explain why they could not make Hyderabad a safe place for women.

Police set up CC cameras at important junctions. But they watch these cameras after a crime was committed and catch the criminals as they did in this case. But if the CC cameras were watched by a policeman all the time live, he would see a crime as it happens and would be able to prevent it, instead of allowing it to happen and then nab the criminal. It is better if policemen realize that they should first prevent a crime from happening and not boast about their ability in nabbing the criminals fast, after allowing a crime to happen.

Even after Delhi rape incident creating uproar, alleged rape news have been hitting headlines. In a recent case, a woman who hailed from Eluru (Andhra Pradesh) was allegedly raped by the manager of a company she earlier used to work with. If we look into details, one Krishna Ranjan, a manager at a packers and movers' company in Hyderabad allegedly misbehaved with a woman colleague at his office who worked as a computer operator. Unable to take the sexual harassment, the woman employee quit the job and left for her native place.

The boss, who allegedly forced her to add him up in her Facebook account, when she joined his company had continued to stay in touch with her through social networking website. The man, who apparently had a beast in him, couldn't control his lust. One fine day (December 10) he reportedly left for Eluru and met this ex-employee. He presumably acted as if he just got a call that his father met with an accident and pleaded her to accompany him till Hyderabad from Eluru.

The tour was successfully planned by the wicked boss and the innocent employee blindly trusted him. On their way back to Hyderabad, the accused spiked her drink with sedatives. After consuming the drink her boss offered her, the woman lost her consciousness. She was then taken to his house in Balanagar area of Hyderabad where he raped her for two days. Two days later, the father of the girl lodged a complaint with Kukatpally police. The cops tracked him, rescued the victim and arrested the accused. Manager was today produced before the court. He was charged with kidnap and rape.

As rightly said by Mahatma Gandhi, Literary education is of no value if it is not able to build up a sound character.

While the incident that took place in Delhi involved illiterates, here the sophisticated rape was done by an educated person who worked as a manager. And it was women who had to pay price for the wicked thoughts of men.

Message to girls: Never blindly believe men just based on their education and position because education and character are two different things. Although end of all knowledge is to build up a sound character, how many of them are looking education from that angle? A million dollar question! Therefore, it's always safe to 'avoid tours and drinks' offered by someone out of your family.

Chicago, Jan 07: 'It's sad. It's very sad. But I guess it's true when they say that money is the root of all evil'.

A hardworking Indian immigrant who hit the lottery for a $1 million last summer was apparently lethally poisoned with cyanide only a single day after officials cut the check for his winnings.

Urooj Khan, 46, paid $60 for two lottery tickets at a Chicago 7-11 in June, and, upon scratching the second one, reportedly leaped in the air and repeatedly shouted, 'I hit a million!'

Days later, with his wife and daughter at his side at the same convenience store in West Rogers Park in which he bought the winning ticket, Khan gleefully - and fatefully - accepted an over sized, mock check from lottery officials, The Chicago Tribune reports.

A check for the $425,000 in prize money, however, wasn't actually cut until July 19. The next day, or July 20, Khan reportedly eturned to his home from work in Chicago's Far North Side, ate dinner and adjourned to bed shortly thereafter.

But the quiescence of Khan's day - and life - was brutally interrupted a short time later when the suddenly wealthy entrepreneur woke up screaming in excruciating pain from his bed.

His frantic widow, Shabana Ansari, and daughter rushed to his side. The stricken Khan was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where doctors pronounced him dead, according to The Tribune.

Meanwhile, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, which conducted an autopsy, found no sign of foul play. And so he was laid to rest Rosehill Cemetery, The Tribune reports.

But within a week of Khan's death an apparently suspicious and unidentified relative asked the M.E. to look more closely into Khan's death, Medical Examiner Stephen J. Cina told the paper.

The ME subsequently conducted a comprehensive toxicology examination of Khan's corpse, and startlingly determined the Indian immigrant had died from a lethal amount of the poison cyanide.

The Chicago Police Department is now treating Khan's death as a homicide, and is even considering exhuming his body to learn exactly what happened to the unfortunate immigrant.

Khan emigrated to the U.S. during the 1980s, and through hard work and discipline, reportedly saved sufficiently to open first one - and eventually three Chicago dry cleaning shops.
