Tuntari Movie Review

Nara Rohith's latest offering Tuntari is an official remake of Tamil film Maan Karate produced by A.R. Murugadoss. The star director also provided story for the film besides producing it. Tuntari is a sports fantasy that has its fun moments but let down by lackluster direction and lazy performances.

What is it about?

Five software engineers meet a sadhu in the forest who gives them a newspaper from the future. They come to know that they are behind the success of a champion boxer called Raju (Nara Rohith). They are shocked to see Raju as he is an aimless guy who doesn't even know that boxing is a sport. Now they should train him up and get him ready for the championship. Raju has to face a fierce and ruthless boxer killer raju (Kabir) to become the champion. Can he win the match against all the odds?

Performances:

Nara Rohith has tried his hand at comedy. He is fine with his histrionics but doesn't look convincing in many scenes. Latha Hegde is just okay as the female lead. Vennela Kishore gets a meaty role. Shankar tried his best to make us laugh. Kabir suits the part. There is nothing much to write about the remaining star cast.

Technicalities:

The premise is interesting but Kumar couldn't get the positives of the original right leave alone correcting the negatives in it. Maan Karate was technically sound but Tuntari falls short by miles. Music by Sai Karthik is mediocre. There is nothing great about the cinematography. The story screams for better production values.

Thumbs Up:

Thumbs Down:

Analysis:

Like most of Nara Rohith's films, Tuntari too has an interesting plot, but fails to impress due to weak execution. Rohith tried something different from his usual tough guy kind of roles. This is surely a different film for him. He should have put in sincere efforts to make it a special one.

Maan Karate wasn't a perfect film but it worked because of certain positives, which are absolutely missing in Tuntari. The chemistry between the lead pair is bad. Songs come as speed breakers and seem totally unnecessary at times. Bad music didn't help to lift the spirits of the film. On a whole Tuntari is a average entertainer that could have been much better with proper handling.

Verdict: Lacks the punch.

Born in Bengaluru and brought up in New Zealand, the sultry Kannada beauty Latha Hegde will be debuting in Tollywood with Nara Rohith's Friday's release Tuntari. The actress' Tollywood journey is rather fairy tale like as the makers of Tuntari approached her with the role via Facebook.

This former beauty queen took part in the film's promotions yesterday in a revealing top and never shied away from showcasing her assets. Apart from her eye feast, what amused everyone was Latha's nonstop blabbering about her favorite Tollywood star, Mahesh Babu.

Apparently, Latha was awestruck after watching Mahesh Babu in Aagadu. The actress went on to hail Mahesh for a few minutes, which left everyone wondering if she was secretly aspiring to romance Mahesh in his next film. Well who knows, a couple of solid hits and Latha may even get a chance to shake her legs with Mahesh soon. -

The one film old Anil Ravipudi impressed mass spectators with his maiden venture Pataas which had many heroism elevation sequences. His new film Supreme is also likely to have many such mass elements. The first look action teaser released long ago generated enthusiasm.

Abhishek Pictures have already acquired the theatrical rights by shelling out fancy but worth price and they are confident of this movie making profitable business at the box office.

Other than Supreme, all the films including Sarainodu are made with lavish budgets and pre release business of all these have crossed market value of respective stars. So, in order to reach success status, these films need to do far better business than the star's previous movies.

On Sunday night, Katrina went on a house-hunting spree in Bandra. She is looking to move out of her current home in Silver Sands that she shared with her ex-beau.
An eyewitness tells us that Kat was hardly in a mood to get clicked and lost her cool on the paparazzi when they were chasing her around.

The sexist and lewd comments made about heroines by Nandamuri Balakrishna at the audio launch of 'Savitri', has become a national issue. Though he made those comments four days back, local Telugu media didn't highlight it much.
Some people on social media started lambasting Balayya, politicians like Roja and some lawyers reacted strongly. This has now come to the notice of national media.
On Monday night, all leading national news channels like Times Now, CNN-IBN had ran stories against Nandamuri Balakrishna and denounced his sexist remarks. A news channel event termed Balakrishna as a ‘vulgar star’.
In his movies, Balakrishna plays the roles that act ‘strongly’ with his heroines. He was referring that his fans would want him to see in such roles but the message was not conveyed properly in his speech.
So, he ended up saying that “fans wants him to kiss his co-stars and impregnate them.”
As the national and regional media have started negative stories on his regressive comments, Nandamuri Balakrishna released a press note saying it was fun remark. He also apologized if anyone’s hurt by his comments.
Everyone knows in the industry that Balakrishna doesn’t know what to talk and what not to in public. Known for his uncontrolled tongue, he recently also made strong comments against Chiranjeevi for no apparent reason.

The city police are hoping that this will only inspire many others to follow suit and make the city roads safe for themselves and others. It is well known that the city traffic police have recently made wearing a helmet compulsory for bikers and are showing no mercy in booking cases and imposing heavy penalties for breaking the rules. -

Story

Hari and Giri are two guys who would be working as salesmen at a pharmacist shop. Not content with their earning as sales men they resort to pick pocketing. However, they are no trained thieves but silly people who want to cushion their salaries. They target locked houses and steal things. Since no big things get lost people won't bother complaining to police.

The two will land in a treasure of money one day. As they try to run away with the loot, they will be caught by a gang. Not realizing why they were caught the two will confess of their theft. However, the gang is after a 'box.' What is the mystery behind the box forms the rest of the story.

Performance

Siddhu was impressive with his ease and his dialogue delivery reminds us of Raj Tharun and Nani. In romance with Rashmi, he showed his true prowess. His comedy timing is too good and it will take him far in the industry! Naresh was lively though you'd feel he's over doing at many instances. In some sequences he was extremely good too.

Talking about Rashmi, one wonders what was the need for this Jabardasth lady to reveal so much. Ask about performance, where was the scope for her to act? We know people won't go with the expectations of seeing her acting talent anyway!

Shraddha was good with her skin show and acting. Mahesh Manjrekar was good and rest of the cast lived up to their roles!

Technical

Praveen Sattaru is a man of different taking and style. Barring few sequences his taking and screenplay are impressive to say the least. Some of the dialogues will take youth by storm at least for some time.

Charan's music was good - there were two songs which are good and the BGM was decent. Editing was not sharp and about OK. Second half feels slightly dragged. Production values are decent.

Plus Points

Siddhu and Naresh

Glamour quotient from Rashmi and Shraddha

Comedy

Screenplay and Direction

Twists and turns in the story

Minus Points

Dragged second half

Analysis

This time Praveen Sattaru came with a full length entertainer. His USP is his screenplay and he wont disappoint audiences with Guntur Talkies too.

The entire story revolves around one central point and he is good in achieving that with leading to monotony. Climax was a little let down though yet screenplay experiment will appeal to cine goers!

Final Talk

Talkies is all about Rashmi and Shraddha's glamour recipes!

In Bollywood, Tara played a rather outrageous role in the adult rated film Mastram and a couple of low budget films. Now, Alisha is back with easily the most erotic film of the year, Love Games. The film is coming from the Bhat camp which is an expert in dishing out sleazy, erotic thrillers.

Last Friday saw the release of three medium budget movies, Manchu Manoj's Shourya, Naga Shaurya's Kalyana Vaibhogame and Jabardasth Rashmi's Guntur Talkies. But it was Kalyana Vaibhogame which emerged a clear winner of these all.

After collecting $13,257 during the Thursday Premieres, Kalyana Vaibhogame notched up its tally by further adding $32,365 on Friday and $64,237 on Saturday respectively, taking the total to $109,859. At this rate, the US distributors will end up with huge profits in thanks to their small investments.

On the other hand, Shourya failed to put up even passable figures after its dismal premier collections of $1,316 on Thursday night, following it up with $1,305 on Friday and $1,493 on Saturday, ending up with $4,114. Even a miracle can't pull out this Manchu Manoj starrer from ending up as a damp squib at the overseas box-office.

Even Guntur Talkies is continuing its poor show at the North American ticket counters. The film, which collected a paltry sum of $2,015 from its premieres, never revived itself and polled $1,264 on Friday and another $1,853 on Saturday, totalling to $5,132. -

Kshanam Movie Review

Kshanam, which caught the attention of movie lovers with intriguing trailers has lived up to the promise. Ravikanth did a fine job as the director and Sesh Adivi did well as the writer.

What is it about?
Rishi (Sesh) who is in US gets a call from his ex lover Swetha (Adah Sharma) from India. He comes to meet and her and she tells that her three year old daughter has been kidnapped. With no hope around, Swetha calls upon Rishi to help her. Rishi tries to find about the kidnap but couldn't trace any details about it. When Rishi doubts that Swetha is hallucinating that she has a daughter, she commits suicide. Rishi is now determined to find what happened to the kid and who is behind the kidnap.

Performances:
Sesh keeps it simple and that is the reason why his performance clicks. He is extremely impressive as the main lead. Adah is good as a suffering mother. She is cute and lovable in the flashback scenes. Anasuya got an interesting character and she shines in it. Vennela Kishore and Satyam Rajesh were good in supporting roles. Satya and Ravikanth are apt in their respective roles.

Technicalities:
Director Ravikanth Perepu took his time at the start. The film moves at a slow pace at the beginning but never loses grip. Second half is very impressive in spite of few unconvincing elements. He made a quality product within a shoestring budget and is definitely a talent to watch out for.

Background music is superb. DOP did an excellent job in giving quality output within the budget. Sesh's story is good. Screenplay written by Sesh and the director keep you on the edge of the seat. Producers must be lauded for backing a good script.

Thumbs Up:

Thumbs Down:

Unconvincing points in the climax

Analysis:

Kshanam is easily one of the finest Telugu films made in recent times. The team was successful on the writing table itself. The movie has an interesting plot and the writers have done a fabulous job with the screenplay. However the film has some issues with its pacing. The first half of the film is uneven with racy moments and dragging scenes.

Second half is gripping and keeps the viewers on the edge of their seats. Screenplay keeps you guessing until the penultimate scenes. The intentions behind the crime are not convincing though, but they had the necessary shock factor to excuse the flaws. The quality of the film amazes you as it never look like a low budget film.

Kshanam is a must watch for the fans of thriller genre and for those who love to watch different films. The technical team has put their heart and soul into it and this small gem springs in a surprise with solid content. Go for it.

Verdict: Keeps you hooked until the last 'Kshanam'.

Kalyana Vaibhogame
RATING:
3/5
Cast: Naga ShouryaMalavikaRashi and Others
Directed by: Nandini Reddy
Produced by: Damodar Prasad

Music by: Kalyani Koduri
Release Date: 2016-03-05

Kalyana Vaibhogame Movie Review

Nandini Reddy, the director who has made a pleasant romantic comedy like Ala Modalaindi couldn't live up to the expectations with her second film. She took a long break to come up with her next film and her hard work and the amount of time invested into writing this is clearly seen in Kalyana Vaibhogame. It is a feel good romantic entertainer that has lot of moments that strikes a chord with the viewers.

What is it about?

Shourya (Naga Shourya) is a computer game designer who wants to settle in the US as a million dollar company owner. Divya (Malavika) has higher aims to achieve, but her father decides to get her married. Shourya is almost blackmailed to get married and that's how he meets Divya. The couple decides to get married but on conditions. However life doesn't turn out as they expected it to be.

Performances:

Naga Shourya tried to do some larger than life characters that have given him bitter experience. He is back in his comfort zone with Kalyana Vaibhogame. He is too good in the role of an ambitious youth. Malavika is a natural. She is a fabulous performer and has once again proved her mettle after an impressive debut in Yevade Subramanyam. Rashi is a delight to watch in the role of heroine's mother. Her expressive eyes do all the talking and acting. Supporting cast has done their part. Everyone is aptly cast.

Technicalities:

Nandini Reddy has done well in setting the mood of the film without wasting any time. Characters are so natural and believable. The situations are so real they feel like they are straight out of real life. Director has done a commendable job in getting the conflict right but somehow slips into familiar mode after a while as if she couldn't risk too much for the sake of novelty.

Dialogues are very impressive. Music is pleasant and so is the cinematography. Eye pleasing visuals and appealing music will keep you glued to the screen. Editing could have been better. Production values are good.

Thumbs Up:

Lead Actors

Thumbs Down:

Drags in second hour

Predictable screenplay

Analysis:

Kalyana Vaibhogame hits all the right notes in the first hour. There are hardly any flaws or issues with the script almost until the interval point. The film heads into predictable mode only after the couple lives under same roof. The process of the lead pair falling in love and realizing their love for each other appears cliched.

Nandini Reddy plays it safe when it comes to the second and the third acts. People who look for novelty will be a bit disappointed with her approach but audience who seek entertainment may not complain about it. Although it appears cliched, the film strikes the chord with its emotions and light hearted moments.

The film drags tad too much towards the end and gets over melodramatic as if it is pleading for us to shed a tear or two. Nandini Reddy ends it on a funny note by introducing her characters from Ala Modalaindi towards the end. It is a nice creative touch by the director. Kalyana Vaibhogame is not a perfect film but it has enough to keep us entertained through it. It is a must watch for people who love to watch Romantic comedies.

Verdict:  Emotional and Entertaining.
